Young Virginia knows her family is poor. Even when she is promised as a maid to a mestizo family at the tender age of seven, she is happy to do her part. But as the years pass with no return to her family, she quickly loses touch with her indigenous culture and left to struggle with an identity not wholly indígenanor mestizo.
