THE CAMPFIRE CRUSH Contest
“Fine,” Ms. Sally says. “I’ll have to be the counselor for that cabin myself, I guess.” Her eyes shift to you with a cold glare. It sounds like she was counting on you! Great, now you’ll have to watch your back for the rest of the summer!
You and Missy will be the counselors for the nine-year-olds cabin, so you get your girls in line and head over to the cabin. Missy leads the group of six girls, and you walk behind, remembering back to when you were nine --- your first year at camp!
You’re lost in a daydream when someone steps in front of you --- it’s Seth!
“Hey, you’re a junior counselor this year?” he asks.
“Yeah, the nine-year-olds,” you tell him, meeting his hazel eyes. His dark hair is shorter but otherwise he’s the same adorable guy from last summer. You feel your heart start to beat fast.
“Um,” he says awkwardly, looking down. “That’s cool, great, I mean, it’s really good that you’re going to be here this summer.”
You’re glad that he’s feeling as uncomfortable as you are! Just then, Missy interrupts.
“Hey, let’s go!” She’s standing with your group of campers, who are waiting for you to finish up your conversation.
“One minute,” you tell her, and she puts a hand on her hip, looking exasperated.
You turn back to Seth, “I’m glad you’re here this summer, too,” you say, then you both stand there just looking at each other for a second. “Well, I guess I better get my campers in their cabin,” you finally say as you move away from him.
“Wait, do you maybe want to hang out or something? You know, catch up?” he suddenly asks.
“Yeah.” You smile. “When?”
“How about now?” He grins. “Meet you at the lake in five minutes, okay?”
Missy lets out a loud sigh and taps her foot. All the campers are getting tired of waiting, too --- one girl has even put her bag on the ground and is sitting on it. “Come on!” Missy says, widening her eyes at you. You decide to …
- Join Seth at the lake and let Missy get the girls settled in to the cabin.
- Go with Missy and the girls and do your job.
