THE GIRL'S GUIDE TO HUNTING AND FISHING
by Melissa Banks
Penguin USA
ISBN: 0140293248
274 pages
I just finished this book and absolutely loved it. The narrator starts off as a very smart, very funny teenage girl, and then grows up.
RACHEL'S HOLIDAY
by Marian Keyes
William Morrow & Co
ISBN: 068818071X
570 pages
This is a perfect book for reading on the beach because you are not likely to be interrupted. If you read it at home, your family might try to interrupt you,and you will ignore them to keep on reading. Family tension will result.
I thought it was funny, sad and smart, and once I started reading, I just couldn't stop.
LIREAL
by Garth Nix
Harpercollins Juvenile Books
ISBN: 0060278234
487 pages
I thought this was a delirious escape into an imaginary world. A shy teenage girl is the hero who gets to dip into a never-ending stream of ancient magic to cast her spells.
THE TATTOOED POTATO AND OTHER CLUES
by Ellen Raskin
E P Dutton
ISBN: 0140329803
I read this book years ago but I am always remembering it and feeling happy. It's a perfect mix of romance, mystery, and hilarious humour. The only trouble is that it's out of print. But it shouldn't be, and hopefully you can find it in a library. Otherwise, I recommend THE WESTING GAME, also by Ellen Raskin, because I liked it almost as much.
WINTER
by John Marsden
PUBLISHER
ISBN: 0330362704
I had to choose this book because it is Winter in Australia now, not summer. Also, John Marsden is my favourite writer for teens. You could also read his Tomorrow series which would mean you had suspense, excitement and a very cool teenage heroine for the whole summer.
