THE 2001 ALEX AWARDS

Created to recognize that just because a book is technically considered an "adult" title, doesn't mean teens won't be able to understand or enjoy it (an idea that Teenreads.com has always championed), the Alex Awards honor adults books that are appropriate for teens.

The award is named in honor of the late Margaret Alexander Edwards --- nickname "Alex" --- a Young Adult specialist at the Enoch Pratt Free Library in Baltimore, Maryland, who was a firm believer that adult books go just as long a way toward broadening and enriching the minds of young adults as official "teen books" do.

Ten adult books were selected by the Adult Books for Young Adults Task Force, a committee of the Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA), to receive the 2001 Alex Awards.
