A touching journey through the life of Julia Ann Amanda Moorehead Britton Hooks. She began life as a slave and worked her way up and out of that life despite many obstacles. Julia was an amazing woman, and her story will at times make you laugh, and at times bring a tear to your eye.

BODY BAGS: A Body of Evidence Thriller Starring Jenna Blake
by Christopher Golden, 5 stars

If you love gruesome mysteries (X-Files, CSI - type dramas), then this book (series) is for you! The book(s) is about Jenna Blake, the inquisitive, down-to-earth heroine, and her first experiences at college and at her new job as an intern/assistant to the medical examiner at the college's medical school. As she starts her new job, she is drawn into a web of perilous politics, horrific diseases, and intriguing mystery. The book is a serious page-turner; once you start it is hard to stop. Jenna is a very
realistic character than anyone can relate too, and all the medical terminology within the book is accurate (so you can actually learn some new things!). As a person interested in the career of forensic pathology, this book is a keeper and a must-read!

SIGHTS by Susanna Vance
, 5 stars

The strange little teenager, Baby Girl, uses her "sight" to see the futures of everyone --- except herself. She can't see her own future at all. It's just as well, because the things that happen to her are so crazy, it might scare her to death! Her adventures rock! She rocks! So does her best friend Selda, who's a windowpeeker! This is a great book.

AT HOME IN MITFORD
by Jan Karon, 4 1/2 stars

It is the first in a series of books about the small town Mitford. The main character is a preacher, but no, it's not a snore. It's humorous, quaint, and touching all at the same time. I recommend this book to anybody. I'm a teenager and I liked it, even if the main characters is a few decades older than me. You can buy it at your local bookstore, or borrow it from any library. It's fairly easy to find this book. AT HOME IN MITFORD has won many awards and it was on The New York Times Bestseller list. If anyone is fond of crawling into a book and forgetting your world for an hour or two: get Jan Karon's book, and get lost in it.

BRAVE NEW GIRL by Louisa Luna
, 3 stars

Quite an interesting story about coming of age. At some point we can all relate, either by the "so much better than you" sister, or by the actions taken by Doreen. The only downfall is that it was a bit hard to follow at one point. Otherwise, a very enjoyable book for all teen girls!

SPEAK
by Laurie Halse Anderson, 6 stars!

This is like the best of the bestest book! SPEAK was not only an awesome and wisely written novel, but it was also an incredible story of a girl and how she handles an unforgettable experience. All of my friends are in line waiting to borrow it to read it!

I am reading James Patterson's ROSES ARE RED and I have read ALONG CAME A SPIDER, KISS THE GIRLS, JACK AND JILL POP GOES THE WEASEL...all by James Patterson. I think they are very interesting books, and a lot of readers will love them.

GONE WITH THE WIND
by Margaret Mitchell, 5 stars

My all-time favorite book! I read it last summer --- most people probably know the movie. I enjoyed it very much! It was one of the those books that I could never put down. The only problem was finding time to read it. I didn't want to finish it because I was enjoying it so much. It was one of if not the first book to make me cry! I love movies that make me get emotional, and when I can read something and get that "into it" it automatically makes it a superb book. I think anyone who likes to read
large books, and romances, this is a great one!

TWISTED SUMMER
by Willo Davis Roberts, 4 stars

It's going to be, Cici  thinks, a special summer. She is fourteen, going on fifteen ---old enough. She's sure, to be one of the "big kids" at Crystal Lake, where she and her family almost always spend the summer. Maybe this year, Jack, two years older than she, will see her as more than a child. But, Crystal Lake is way different then
she expected. It turns out there was a murder...and it's up to Cici to see who REALLY did it. Could it be the Judge? What about the rest of her family? Who can she trust? Is Jack the only person she can trust? Is Cici in danger too? Someone's in jail for something they didn't even do...and Cici has to get him out.

PEELING THE ONION
by Wendy Orr, 4 stars

The car accident changed everything. Before, Anna knew who she was and what she looked like. But now she's a stranger to her family, her friends, and herself. She is no longer the pretty, popular girl who loves karate. Her body now betrays her, and she knows it will nevever be the same. All the layers that made up the old Anna --- her looks, her  friends, her sport --- have been peeled away, leaving her to face the question of who she really is, and who she wants to be.
