I just finished reading Gossip Girl by Cecily von Ziesburg. The book is about a girl's point of veiw on growing up with the perfect life-perfect friends, perfect family, everything she could ever want dropped in her lap on a silver platter. It's also about what really goes on on the "other" side, all the petty backstabbing and scandals. I loved the book, and would give it 4 stars ****

MarinnaTang27@aol.com
My recommendations would be..

*Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson
.. really really good..It's about a freshman girl, Melinda, in high school who starts off the school year with no friends because all her friends ditched her in the summer. At this summer party, she was raped by an upperclassmen and called the police. Her friends dont know about it, and they refuse to talk to her. Ever since the rape, Melinda has trouble speaking up. Throughout the book, in a first person narrative voice, she tells her story throughout the school year. Her words are truthful, sometimes dark, and surprisingly witty. Two thumbs up

*Ellen Foster by Kaye Gibbons
A little different style writing then usual. Ellen Foster, a young girl, now lives contently with a foster family. But getting there was quite a battle. She jumps back and forth from her happy life, to the past within the chapters, rather then in seperate chapters. Much of her family dies while she stays with them, and she jumps around living with her real parents, her teacher, her grandmother, and her aunt in the course of a very small period. She's way beyond her years, paying bills, getting food for herself, and reading books that most people dont real till college. Also, she struggles with racism within her family and herself, ironically her best friend being black. It's a heartwarming story of a smart, spunky kid who knows so much, yet still unaware of so many things.

*Angus, Thongs, and Full-Frontal Snoggling by Louise Renninson
A hilarious book about the teenage dating life of a British girl. Angus - her cat, Thongs - underwear, Full Frontal Snogging- kissing (tongues and all) It's similar to The Princess Diaries, which were also grreat. There's also a sequel to this. A Must Read.

redcat28@optonline.net
I would reccomend the book Voodoo Moon by Wendy Corsi Staub. It is a thrilling, fun book that makes you think "Are there really supernatural forces?" Voodoo Moon is part of the Charmed series and you can really relate it to the show "CHARMED." Even though it was not an actual episode, the characters attitudes and personalities are the same. I really likes the CHARMED television series and wanted to try the books. This particular book (and others in the series) was exsactly what I expected.
The book was written so well that it felt like the events were actually happening.
To make a long story short the book is about three GOOD witches, Prue, Piper, and Phoebe, who decide to go to New Orleans to take a vacation from demon fighting. However while in New Orleans they encounter a powerful form of Voodoo sorcery that almost costs two of the three sisters lives and other innocent people.
I would give this book 5 stars.
Another book I am reading right now is called THE FIRST CUT which is also (so far) a VERY good book.

LCGuardPrincess@aol.com
My favorite books are "The Giver", anything by Lurelene McDainel, and Chicken Soup books. Reading is more than just looking at pictures it is another world full of everything. Reading a book can make the imagenation run wild with different things. Thanks for your time.

LCGuardPrincess@aol.com
Tenderness is an awesome book full of suspence and anger that is let out by only a tear.

Frogs4U713@aol.com
I recently read Go Tell It On the Mountain by James Baldwin. Although at some points trying your patience with it's numerous flashbacks of several characters, this novel tells the story of a poor black family's ascent into their own divine righteousness. Go burned racial bridges everywhere and sparked a much-needed controversy. I would recommend this to anyone, providing you are tolerant of religious spouts and have a good memory.

DarlinFaerie@aol.com
I am reading The Vampire Chronicles by Anne Rice. Most people have seen the movie Interview With The Vampire made around 1997, well, that is the very first book of this six or seven book collection. The main characters are The Vampire Lestat, Louis, Claudia, Armand, Marius, Daniel, David Talbot, Maharet, and Khayman. All of these characters run into problems that every day vampires run into, like what murderer to kill today, or what voice is haunting them. These books are very detailed and very beautiful to read. I give The Interview With The Vampire, The Vampire Lestat, The Queen of the Damned, and The Tale of the Body Thief, all a 10 on the scale from 1 to 10. (Some parts are very graphic and gruesome also, so beware and happy reading!)

easlaymaker@yahoo.com
I am reading a book called Elske by Cynthia Voigt. It is really good and I recomend it to girls especially. I give it a five star rating

I have just recently read The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants by Ann Brashares. It is also very good. It is about four best friends and a pair of pants. They pass the pair of jeans from girl to girl over summer break. I give it a five star as well.

The last book that I will recomend is The Golden Compass by Phillip Pullman. This is a great book, even if you aren't that into fantasy. This is the first book in the series, but I like the last one best. Another five star.

There are many books that I love. But I will concentrate on one of my favs, The Perks of Being a Wallflower. This book is amazing! The story is told through the eyes of a very shy, yet unique, teenage boy. Once Charlie enters high school, his old middle school friends desert him for the popular crowd. But he finds himself making friends with a former jock and his sister-in-law. They are both older than him but find him to be a gentle soul. Charlie discovers that the former jock, Patrick, is gay. Also, he realizes he is falling in love with Patrick's sister, Samantha. In the backdrop of his social life is his family life. Nothing seems too abnormal until the shocking revelation that his aunt, who died when he was very young, had molested him. This, of course, traumatizes Charlie into the underlying depression that was in him already, but he battles his way out of it. This is the epitome of a "coming-of-age" story. Yet, it is more than that.! There are moments where Charlie and his group of friends discuss existential matters ( it might sound cheesy but it's true). Like when Charlie describes his feelings of "being infinite" or their spoutings of personal philosophical theories. It is a very powerful and enlightening book. As Yoda (from Star Wars) would say, "very deep, this novel is."

These my all time fave. books and/or series: no paticular order:
~ Catcher and the Rye by J.D. Salinger. Four stars out of five.
It's for high-school age, but I read it in 8th grade and loved it. It is hard to explain, and I love Salinger's different writing technique and style.
~ A Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket (series). Four stars out of five.
Three siblings have just lost their parents and are sent to live with their evil, money controlled uncle, Count Olaf. Encounter after encounter and relative after relative, the children manage to escape the claws and evil schemes of Olaf. Darker than expected for a children's book, but wonderfully entertaning for any age.
~ Harry Potter by J. K. Rowling (series). Five stars out of five.
Young Harry Potter discovers he is a wizard and is sent to boarding school where he finds a wonderfully enchanting world he had long been shielded from. He comes into many encounters with the dark wizard, Lord Voldemort, but prevails to be a hero once and again.
~ Everwolrd by K. A. Applegate (series). Three out of five stars.
Different than my usual style, Everworld is more of a science fiction/fantasy story about four normal teenagers and a witch, who are transferred to a parallel universe called Everworld. The teens run into many different creatures on their exploration and discovery of the world as they try to figure out how to get home. Only when the teens sleep, do they come back to being as their normal selves on Earth.
~ To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee. Five stars out of five.
A coming-of-age novel about two children and their father, a lawyer, in a small town in Mississippi. The story follows Jean Louise, or Scout, and Jeremy through Jem's first passage into adult-hood and traces the murder trial of an African-American and his struggle for justice. An inspiring novel that opens doors, as told through Scout's eyes, and shows the court from a new angle. I know it sounds boring, but trust me, it is one of my favorite books and I have re-read it so often, I needed a new copy.
OTHER GREAT READS:
Finn. Harley Like A Person. Angus, Thongs and Full Frontal Snogging. Burger Wuss. The Princess Diaries. ect.. too many to name!

Gelly1000@aol.com
Right now I am reading a book called "Burger Wuss" by M.T. Anderson. I think this book is hillarious! It is about a boy named Anthony who starts working at a fast food place called O'Dermmonts. The main reason he is working there is becuase the reason he broke up with his girlfriend, Diana was becuase a guy who works there, Turner was caught making out with her. If you are a teen you will love this book! It is funny, and has everything in a great book. Humor, romance, etc. I give it 5 out of 5 stars. I also reccomend "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants", The Dark Materials series, "Summer Sisters", and "Big Mouth and Ugly Girl"

ShirQuat@aol.com
This book is so awesome! It 's about this girl with red hair who is adopted by an old lady about forty. She lived on Prince Edward Island in Canada where there wasn't any excitement until Anne came. Anne is very defiant and has a very big imagination. It takes place in a time where ladies wore long dresses and were very prissy. Well, Anne was far from that she was strong and smart and did not take no mess especially from boys. Anne is really down to earth. And Anne would speak her mind. I give this book 5 stars and 3 thumbs up!

I am reading a series of books at the moment, the first one was written about 20 years ago and the latest one was published last month.
the series is called the earths children and they are written by Jean Auel... they are really brilliant I am about half way through the 4th one and it is the best thing I have ever read, it is a bout a girl/ woman called Alya who starts off life with people that she does not know and cant talk to them, during the last ice age. they take her in and she grows up with them learning all about there way of life.. But she is nothing like them.
She learns to hunt by watching a man hunting but it is wrong for the women to hunt so she gets banished and she, goes off to live with her self in a valley in a cave. While she is there she adopts a baby horse and learns to ride it ( no one had done this before). She also adopts a baby lion who is badly hurt and she nurses him back to health and he becomes a friend to the lonely woman. When the Lion has grown up and is too big to live in the cave with Ayla she sets him free and he goes and finds a mate. one day when Ayla is hunting she comes across the lion but he has just hurt two men, she takes them back to the cave, but one of them has got a fever and dies almost instantly. But she looks after the man that survives ( called Jondarlar) and he becomes well again. They both speak a different language, so Ayla tries desperatly to learn Jondarlars language. After a year they have fallen in love and Ayla now owns another horse they decide to leave the valley and go and find Jondarlars family. On the way the come across a village and they become very friendly with them. Ayla gets adopted by them... and a man falls in love with Ayla. Iti is after a year that Ayla decides to marry this man because she thinks Jondarlar does not love her any more. It is only the night befor Ayla gets married to this man that one of Aylas new friends tells her what Jondarlar really thinks, but by that time Jondarlar has left the village to go home, heart broken that the one he loves has left him. Ayla runs off to find him and they tell each other what they really think. and get back to gether. they leave that village and carry on on the journey to find Jondarlars family,

that is as far as i have got but as soo as I pick the book up I really can not put it down..
I give this book 10/10 because it is much better then any thing I have ever read they are brilliant

The book I just finished reading is called "The True Conffesions of Charlotte Doyle", by Avi. The book is great, but they need to change the title. It sounds like a preppy book, but it is great. The story is about a girl (Charlotte Doyle) who boards a ship to go home from London to America. In the beginning, Charlotte meets the crew, and becomes friends with the Captain, but after a death theart, and a terrible accident,Charlotte becomes hated on the ship. Finally, she makes the choice of joining the crew, and is trained like a member. But during a storm, Charlotte was accused of murder, and to be hung. As she was held prisoner, Charlotte uncoverd many secrets that could have helped her, but her plans backfired. On the day she was to be hung, the captain could not fulfill his duties( you'll find out why if you read the book). And Charlotte arrives home safely. But she realises her true home was the sea. This is a great book and is mixed with adventure and mystery.

I am currently reading 2 books; A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, and Scribble of Dreams by Mary E. Pearson. A Tree Grows in Brooklyn is my favorite book, this is my third time reading it. I'd definitely give it 5 stars. Scribble of Dreams is really great. I have less than 20 pages left and I just started this morning (it has about 250 pages), I can't put it down. It's kind of like a modern day Romeo and Juliet with a lot more twists. When I first saw it, I rolled my eyes and just thought that it was another dopey teenage romance. I bought the book anyway because it was on sale and I knew that my best friend would like it. It was nothing like I thought it would be. It's about this girl, Katie Malone and she meets this really great guy named Bram, they fall in love, the only problem is, is that he's a Cruthfield and she's a Malone, and he has no idea that she's a Malone. The romance is really cute, and true to teenage life. It takes place during their senior year in high school, so they're also dealing with those changes. During the story she investigates the real reason why the two familles hate each other. It's a great story, five stars easily.

Ribbitt330@aol.com
A Child Called It and The Lost Boy by David Pelzer was the best book ever. out of the 9 novels in the last semseter of school them were the best i read both in the matter of 2-3 days

sungoddess2144@msn.com
I just finished reading Little Altars Everywhere and Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood, by Rebecca Wells. Both of these books are excellent, and they really make you think about relationships between mothers and daughters, and between friends, too. The story centers around a mother, Vivi, and her daughter, Sidda. Sidda is trying to figure out her mother, and why she did the things she did, so her mother, persuaded by the Ya-Yas, sends her a scrapbook filled with all of her memories growing up. It's a great book that everyone should read. *****5 stars

Someone Like You by Sarah Dessen was great because it was real yet entertaining.

ON A WAVE by Thad Ziolkowski is an outstanding coming of age book about a teen who has to deal with his parent's divorce and finds escape through surfing. Mr. Ziolkowski is the Director of the Writing Program at Pratt Institute and provides wonderful examples of great writing!
