Some books that I've read lately:

-Chinese Cinderella by Adeline Yen Mah: a true story
of the author's life growing up in China. She writes
about how her stepmother and father neglected her and
favored her half-siblings. The family would often
deliberately forget her or starve her. All the while,
she suceeded as an honor student in her school, and
won scholarships to college and other academic awards.
It is a powerful autobiography about a child's
struggle to make her dreams come true. 5 stars*****
out of a possible 5. (There is an adult version of the
story called Falling Leaves, also.)

-Dovey Coe by Frances O'Roark Dowell: an excellent
suspense story about a girl who comes from a poor
family and her older sister gets proposed to by a very
rich man. When her sister denies his proposal, the man
gets really mad and embarrased. Later on, that same
man is discovered dead in his workshop and Dovey Coe
is accused of murdering him...5 stars***** out of a
possible 5.

-Eva by Peter Dickinson: a teenage girl is involved in
a car accident, and the surgeons replace her brain
with an ape's. She is used for lots of tests and lives
in different areas where they can use her as a guinea
pig for research. It is a little bit hard to get
into...4 stars**** out of a possible 5.

-Go Ask Alice: a diary by an anonymous teenager who
gets hooked on cigarettes and other illegal drugs at a
party and basically turns her life into a living
nightmare from then on. It is a true diary so all of
the names and places were changed. 4 1/2 stars out of
a possible 5.

-And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie:
definitely a best of Agatha Christie's novels. Several
people recieve an invitation to an island and when
they get there, they realize that they are the only
people there.(Or so they think.) They also find out
that they were all invited by different people, or at
least different names. And one by one, they are all
killed...but you have to wait until the end to find
out who the killer is!5 stars***** out of a possible
5.

all wrinkle in time books (m. l'engle) ***** 5 stars

I have just finished a very good book called The Imposter. It is set in the 1800s. Lord Hector's brother wagered that he couldn't find honest work for a week, so Hector went and got a job as a tutor. Miss Serena Osmond doesn't believe that he is a tutor, though, so she watches him
One day, Lord Hector stumbles upon a mystery. A peddlar called Piggott signaled Jason, the child Hector is tutoring, outside so Lord Hector follows, so does Miss Osmond. Lord Hector breaks up the meeting and proves that Jason's mother is dead, which he didn't believe for a long time.
Eventually, Piggott comes back and kidnaps Jason. Lord Hector and company stop the kidnapping. This is a great book, it even has romance, which I didn't tell about, for it spoils the ending.

One book I would recommend would be Window on the Square. It is about a girl who is asked to help Jeremy Reid. Jeremy is believed to have killed his father, Dwight. This book is a great mystery, but the romance stinks. This was far from my favorite book, but the plot is good. At the end, it gets kind of confusing, but I didn't read it carefully. If you like mysteries, this is a pretty good book for you

I just finished reading Breathing Underwater by Alex Finn. I went through so many emotions while reading this book. I went to the library and checked it out this morning but I couldn't put it down.
At the beginning of the book, I felt sorry for Nick. His dad beat him up all the time, and (I thought) Caitlin was overreacting, like he had just hit her in self-defense or something. But just because he only hit her once, doesn't mean he didn't abuse her. He would insult her all the time, Telling her she was fat, and controlling her every move. I blame her for staying with him. If it was me, I would have left him the first time he ordered Caitlin to take off her necklace, then threw it out the window. Then he would have never had the chance to beat her up in the parking lot.
But Caitlin had very low self-esteem, so she always thought she wasn't good enough for him, like all the insults he said to her were true. I only wish she would have realized earlier that he was bad news. No girl should EVER put up with any guy telling her what to wear, controlling her every move. And Caitlin's Mom played a big part in her low self-esteem. Her mom's comments were mean, sometimes cruel.
I think this book didn't have a happy ending. Caitlin will be scarred for the rest of her life because of Nick's abuse and her mother's cruel behavior. And I think Nick will always have that choice to make, every time he gets mad, whether to hit the person or walk away. He will be scarred forever, too, from his father. But at the end of the book, he has learned how to deal, seen himself in Leo's place, seen how it could have been. One wrong mistake, and he could end up just like him. But he won't. He was strong enough to realize what his problem was before it was too late. Hopefully they can both recover from this.
This was a wonderful book, and now one of my favorites. It has made me realize some of the mistakes I've made to friends, family members, etc.. I think that when writers are able to help people find their mistakes by writing about other peoples', they have reached their ultimate goal.

Sarah Dessen has done it again with her book Someone Like You. This is a
realistic-fiction book that acts as if it were a diary. It makes you feel as
if you were really there. This book tells about a couple of average sophmores
who all of a sudden find their lives twisted around and complicated. One is
pregnant and the other is ditching school and outlawing her parents. The
author does a wonderful job of telling how they stick together and pull
themselves through this incredably rough time in their lives. This book would
be interesting for anyone to read and I would definetly reccomend it. But
make sure that when you sit down to read it that you have a lot of time
because you won't want to put it down!!!!!!1

Briar Rose by Jane Yolen is an exellent book. It is a retelling of the story of Sleeping Beauty, but with a significant twist.
Rebecca has heard the story of Briar Rose from her Grandmother many, many times since she was born, but it was different than the story she hears from other people. It's not the happy Disney version, but a more brutal one. But when her grandmother is on her deathbed, she tells Rebecca something astonishing, that she is Briar Rose. Rebecca, as a journalist, promises her grandmother to find her castle, but this is hard, because no one in the family knows anything about her grandmothers past. With the help of her coworker and a box of old memories, she finds her self pulled back into her Grandmothers horrifying past having to do with the holocaust. And she eventually finds out that her Grandmother was not crazy, that the story is true, in it's own special way.
Jane has done a wonderful job in the retelling of the old classic. It proves that fairy tales weren't always like the Disney movies. I would recommend this book to everyone 13 and older, and especially to people who are interested in the Holocaust. I give this book 5 out of 5 stars.

I would like to recommend "The perks of being a wallflower" by Stephen Chbosky. The story is told by Charlie, a boy entering his 1st year in high school. It is in the form of a diary because we, the readers, are reading letters he is writting to an unkown person. Charlie's story is about his time in high school, from making friends, losing friends and everything in between. It's about "The world of first dates and mixed tapes, family dramas...""The world of sex, drugs, and the Rocky Horror Picture Show..." Stephen Chbosky did an amazing job writting this book. As a 15 year old girl I could still relate to Charlie's life! I would give this mazing peice of work 10 stars out of 5 it was soo great!

I am reading When She was Good by Norma Fox Mazer, So far this book is very interesting and makes me think about new things that I have never thought about before and things that everyone thinks about. Em Thurkill is a very interesting girl who had even harder teen years than most people and is trying to become normal, and finding out what normal is...

I have just recently finished reading "Born Blue" by Han Nolan. I loved this book. It only took me 3 days to read. Usually, it would take me three months just to read one book, but I couldn't put this one down. It is about a young girl, who has a heroine addict mother, who is struggling through life on her own, running away from foster homes and trying to make her dream of become a famous singer like Etta James come true. She goes through a lot of hard times in this book, and I just wanted to say I really enjoyed reading it. Do yourself a favor, read this book.
