Dear Teenreads,

I recently read Hanging on to Max by Margaret Bechard. I give it 4 1/2 stars. It's about a 17 year old boy whose girl friend has a baby and wants to give it up. He gets custody of the baby. He takes on all the responsibilities of parenthood. There are serious parts and funny part and an ending that made me cry. It is not a deeply developed book, but it does tell the teen pregnancy story from a different angle.

I finished this book, Forgotten Beasts of Eld, a while ago (a long time ago, if you had to know). But it is one of those books that you can always pick up and read again. I've read it for more than twenty times. Patricia McKillip, the author, had undone herself when she created that book. It was a mystical tale about a girl named Sybel who had to confront herself and overcome all struggles she was going through. it was not one of those flaky fantasy books or overtly romantic. instead, it was well-fleshed out hardcore fantasy novel. from the first paragraph, i swear you'll be hooked. hook, line, sinker, and the pole! Still not convinced? Okay, the book mainly talks about Sybel and how she got herself entangled with a land dispute (centuries of dispute and struggle). She has this special powers which she could call the forgotten beasts (talking, mystical, powerful beasts of Eld) back to existence and live among her. during her peaceful interlude, she came upon a baby boy. when she decided to raise the child, she confronted many problems and situations that came up after keeping the child. the book is really an easy read, trust me :) i give the book a rating of infinite stars!

I just finished reading The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. I would probably rate it a three, it was a good book, and I like fantasies, but it wasn't as complicated a plot as I like, I did think it was interesting to see all the Christian symbolism though.

pkracett@northnet.org
I just read "Girl with a Pearl Earring" by Tracy Chevalier. It is the authors interpretation of a girl in a painting by the artist Vermeer. It is about her life as maid for Vermeer in 17th century Holland. The book blends fact and fiction so well, it is hard to tell one from the other. It is a captivating historical fiction book. I would give it 4 1/2*.

Ethornberry524@aol.com
Madeleine Lengle books and all Jerry Spinelli 5 starz

RavenBe@aol.com
I just read The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold. I thought it was a really great book and would give it 4*s.
Right now I'm reading The Westing Game. I have never read mystery before, but I find this book to be really interesting.
For anyone who is a fan of the TV show Alias: three books have just come out. Alias Declassified is a companion to the show. It has interviews with cast members, producers,etc.. and behind the scenes. Recruited is a novel about Sydney's life before she learned she was working for the enemy.
AKA Jennifer Garner is a biography of Jennifer Garner. It gives little info, has spelling and grammatical errors and other mistakes.

girls_rock44@frontiernet.net
I have been reading Lurlene McDaniel, Nicholas Sparks, Louisa May Alcott. I didn't really like message in a bottle, but a walk to remember was pretty good. And Under the Lilacs is good too.

Ever since I learned how to read, I have devoured book upon book. Reading is what I enjoy most, and there
are plenty of books that are my favorites.

The Giver by Lois Lowry. I have read this book time upon time. It's set in a futuristic society in which everyone is genetically engineered to have the same characteristics. Every person in the communtiy has a role that they are assigned. This is the story of a 12 year old kid named Jonas, and how he tries to bring about change. I give it a 5 of 5

Farenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury. I read this for the first time last year. It is a captivating read. This is set in a futuristic society in which it is illegal to earn books. Firemen in this society are used to enforce the no-book rule instead of putting out fires (there are no more fires because of the invention of fireproof houses). This is the story of a fireman who discovers the joy of the written word, and what it does to him in a society that scorns it. 5 of 5

Any book by Tamora Pierce. I read my first book by Tamora Pierce about a year ago. She writes fantasy books in which her main characters are female. They have sort of a medieval setting and have an emphasis in magic. Tamora Pierce's love for animals are evident throughout the books. 5 0f 5

Tomorrow When the War Began by John Marsden. This is the first book in an excellent series. The next books are The Dead of Night, a Killing Frost, and Darkness be My Friend. These books are centered on a group of kids in Austrailia who go on a camping trip in the bush for a week. When they come back, they find that their country has been invaded, and their families are being held in the town fairgrounds. These books are told through the eyes of Ellie. 5 of 5

Almost Lost and Go Ask Alice. These books are both edited by Beatrice Sparks, who I believe is a psychiatrist. These are true stories and relate to problems that are apparent in a great number of teens today. These books, and any others edited by Beatrice Sparks, are a great read, and a source of information, that, if nothing else, says that you are not alone. 5 of 5

Reviews
The Terrorist by Caroline B. Cooney
I thought this was a OK book. The main charecter's brother gets blown up by a bomb. In the book she's CONSTANTLY trying to find the person who gave the bomb to her brother (it was in a box), she's so angry, always asking people what kind of nationalaty they are. She goes to a International Acadamy and was always suspecting them for her brother's killing.
Stars 3/5

Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson
I'm only in the middle of the book, but WOW it's such a great book! It's a funny book, but it's about a outcast and all her problems. She busted a party (called the cops on the people there) during the summer and now they all hate her. It's basically about her life as a freshman, and all her troubles of being a loner.
Stars 5/5

Hey readers! I just started a book yesterday called The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. It's about 4 friends and a pair of jeans that one of them purchased @ Goodwill. Every summer they hang out together-but this summer is different because they aren't going to be together. They decide to send the pants around in a rotation and make a list of rules for "the pants". On the left leg, they will write the most exciting thing that happened to them while in the pants, and on the right the most important. I'm planning on finishing it today! Enjoy!

I know I'm going to sould like some old English teacher, but I read, "Of Mice and Men" by John Steinbeck and I really enjoyed it. Its a short book(about 100 pgs.), it will really make you think about life without getting all drawn out and boring. So just humor me, and give it a try. 4 1/2 stars.

easlaymaker@yahoo.com

Hey! I've read some great books:

1)Angus, Thongs and Full-frontal Snogging by I forget the author's name... this book is the funniest thing I have read in a long time! It's about a fourteen year old girl who is everygirl, and sometimes what happens to her makes you think: hey, I might've done that! From (accidentally) shaving off her eyebrows to falling in love with the Sex God, this made me laugh out loud more than any other book, movie or person. I give it 4 1/2 Stars

2)A Midsummer Night's Dream by W. Shakespeare- awesome, enchanting, this book has everything: love triangles, magic and spells, adventure... it was brilliant! I can't wait to get into high school and do this production.
**** Four Stars

3)Feeling Sorry for Celia by this was a book that I had seen on the shelf of a bookstore and I thought: dumb. I was so wrong. My friend had it and I was dying for a good book, so I reluctantly tried it. It was written in the form of letters, notes from her wacky mom and postcards from the main character's best friend, Celia, who had run away to join the circus. It was a good read, and entertaining. ***1/2 Stars.

4)Lord of the Rings-J.R.R. Tolkien- ok, so I'm a big Lord of the Rings nerd. Unfortunately I saw the movie before I finally read it, so I can't say I've worshipped them for years, but STILL! Wow. Definitely a 5 star trilogy.

5)The Glass Menagerie by ok, so it's a play, and I am cheating, but READ THIS! It was really cool, and I can imagine it in a book-format. I found it was a deep book, and you could look into each character's line and see hidden meaning. Read it for yourself. Go on, you can do it! ***1/2 Stars

6)The Arthur Series: At the Crossing Places, and The Seeing Stone by totally cool. The chapters are sometimes one page, but there are 100 chapters, so it's a great read. I love how the author wrote, his style made me really understand Arthur de Caldicot, and Arthur-in-the-Stone was a great way to look into a different (yet eerily similar) story. I can't wait for the next one. ****Stars (4)

7)The Once and Future King by T.H. White- This book is deep. It's five books, really, but don't automatically think, 'no way.' It starts with 'Wart', Arthur at the age of 12, and it goes on until his death (and beyond). In "The Book of Merlyn" I learned so much, about life and it's meaning, about humans, about civilization, about nearly everything, I think my brain almost exploded! Honestly, I had to take a day off of reading to let this book sink in. It changed my way of thinking. I give this book 5 Stars, but if I could, I would give it 6. But, alas, that defeats the purpose of rating books. So, *****.

I am just starting The Golden Compass, by Phlilip Pullman. It is soo awesome already! On the first page, I was hooked into this delicate and exciting story of Lyra and her daemon's adventures and battles of their life. It is a great book with two sequels that I am eager to read! Check this book out! My friend is on the second book, The Subtle Knife, and told me the first one is grrrrrrr-eat! Dive into the adventurous stories and love it like I do.

I recommend the book PURE by Rebbeca Ray. there's alot of cursing and some sex. But to tell you the truth, this book,to me was very interesting. At times I would stop reading because it got boring but not too much. But i really thought it was interesting.Even if it does get kind of boring, it really is a good book in some strange way that I can't explain. But i recommend it.I give it 3 1/2 stars.

I am a grade 12 student and I just complete my favorite novel by far, Cat's eye by Margaret Atwood. It is a somewhat exhilarating and disturbing all at once. It was very expressive and I personally could relate to many of the situations the young girl (Elaine Risley) encounters as she ages from 3rd grade to an older woman. It is a touching classic and I couldn't bear to set it down while reading it into the wee hours of the morning!
