SISTERHOOD OF THE TRAVELING PANTS by Ann Brashares- This book was great! I think it was cool how a pair of pants could bring friends so close together! It's about 4 friends during summer, when they go there seperate ways. It's a awesome book!
Stars-5/5

BACKWATER by Joan Bauer- This book is about a girl named Ivy Breedlove who loves history, her family for generations have been lawyers, and that's what her father wants her to be, but she has different ideas. Her aunt, which is a hermit, is living in the mountains, and she decides to go up there! Once she's up there, she'll learn more about her, and about the Breedlove generation. This is a great book!
Stars-5/5

CATALYST by Laurie Halse Anderson- If you loved "Speak" this is a must read! A teenage girl who is really into Chemistry. A enemy who is rude to everyone, but at the same time, kind of a outcast, a loner. These two people, go a long way in this story!

Bonjour-I recently read a book called Dragonriders of Pern: Dragonflight. It's the first book in the series. This book is so good I didn't put it down for two days. It's about a girl who becomes a heroine through her ups and downs. I would recommend it to any body who wants a lift from a bad day, or just wants something fun to read. This book definately gets five stars. I would even give it eight if I could. Au Revoir.

This school year i have read 2 books and now completing my third. The first book ive read was GO ASK ALICE. This book is definately 5 stars!! It goes so deep into the reality of drugs and teen life. As I was reading it, i actually felt like i was Alice. I think every teen will love this book.

The second book i read was LOVES ME, LOVES ME NOT by Anilu Bernardo. I personally enjoyed this book because im a cuban-american living in miami just like the main character in this book. I recommend it for teen girls who love reading about crushes!

The one im reading now is really good! Its HARLEY LIKE A PERSON by Cat Bauer. Similar to GO ASK ALICE in how she gets into the wrong crowd. But its great how theres a puzzle behind who is her real father! This book is 5 stars too!

I just read STARGIRL. It is a wonderful book and I plead to all u out there to give it a flip thru. It’s a great book! It expresses the importance's and the intolerance of individuality in today's high schools. This book opened up my eyes, and I gained a new outlook on life. Take a loom at it. Its pretty darn good. 6/5. lol

knelson@vermontel.net

SPEAK (Laurie Halse Anderson) If you read one book in your four years of high school (hopefully..but there's nothing wrong with repeating a grade...) I beg you, give this one a try. The tale revolves around Melinda, a ninth-grader. She was unfortunatly raped the summer before and called the cops, ruining the party., and all of her friends decided she was not worthy of them. Melinda was left outcasted in high school, just trying to survive the every day battles teenagers go through. Horrible teachers who give 500 word essays on crap like "How Pencils Are Made" to spectaculer teachers who coach Melinda through her tough time, to parents who argue over roof tiles and peers who don't give a damn about you. The entire year Melinda speaks maybe 3 words. You'll love it, trust me. *****

Also try ANGUS, THONGS AND FULL-FRONTAL SNOGGING for a good laugh(***1/2), and Star Girl(****) for another look at high school like. Read Stoner and Spaz if you're into odd couples(****), and White Oleander for a poetic glimpse into the life of a girl moving from foster home to foster home(*****). Email me for more good reads, my door is always open.

Some really good books to read are
1) Trilogy: HIS DARK MATERIALS by Philip Pullman
2) Trilogy: THE LORD OF THE RINGS by Tolkien
3) SHADOW SPINNER

Each one is an excellent read, especially the trilogy, HIS DARK MATERIALS, which includes THE GOLDEN COMPASS, THE SUBTLE KNIFE, and THE AMBER SPYGLASS. You must read them!!

There are 2 books and 1 series that I've read time and time again and still haven't tired of them. They are...

1) SCRIBBLER OF DREAMS - Wow... that sums up the entire thing. I stayed up until three in the morning reading this book because I lost track of time! Oops. Anyways, this is a modern day Romeo and Juliet story, except much more fast-paced. Kaitlyn and Bram's two families are dyed in the wool enemies, except they fall in love. Bram has no idea who she really is, because she registered at her new school under her mother's maiden name for certain reasons. Take my advice!

2) TIME ENOUGH FOR DRUMS - An amazing revolutionary war book... with some romance too Headstrong Jem, a full-blown Patriot, starts off the books hating her Tory tutor, but as the book progresses, her feelings change to those of love. Anyone who likes a good romance or historical fiction will surely love this book!

3) The Anne of Green Gables Books- ANNE OF GREEN GABLES, ANNE OF AVONLEA, ANNE OF THE ISLAND, ANNE OF WINDY POPLARS, ANNE'S HOUSE OF DREAMS, ANNE OF INGLESIDE, and RILLA OF INGLESIDE- There is too much to say about these wonderful books! Just read them!

Over the past few weeks i have read a number of outstanding books in cluding the two following:

The one i finished most recently is SHABANU by Staples. This is an awesome example of wonderfully written literature about a young girl living in the Cholestin desert in Pakistan. Already at 12 she has been arranged to marry her cousin (Murad) in two years, her sister Phulan in one year to marry Murad's older brother Hamir. Shabanu can be described as nothing but a pain in the you-no-what to her parents, and Dadi (father) is worried that her trouble making will make trouble in her marrige. Dadi and Mama struggle to teach Shabanu that she must listen and obey, even if she disagrees. All in all, i would rate this novel with 4 1/2 stars. **** and a 1/2

The next book I have read that deserves recognition is THE LIFE HISTORY OF A STAR by Kelly Easton. This book is the diary of a real life girl with real life friends and real life problems. This book takes place in the 1970's and has everything to do with your life and nothing to do with it. Everything to do with whats important and nothing to do with it. I highly recomend this novel for any real life girl who wants to feel better about herself (because after reading this girl's problems, you'll realize yours isn't half as bad as u thought). I give this book 4 stars. ****

lizkyle@msn.com
I just finished reading BEWARE, PRINCESS ELIZABETH by Carolyn Meyer. It was pretty good. It is all about Queen Elizabeth (of England). It basically just told all about her struggles to get to the throne and all that her sister Mary put her through. I had always wondered about her, and I found it interesting to hear kind-of her side of the story. There are two other books in the series, MARY, BLOODY MARY, and DOOMED QUEEN ANNE. I haven't had a chance to read those yet, but I am sure they are also just as good!

The one book I want to give people this holiday season is...

THE SPIRITUAL CHICKS QUESTION EVERYTHING: Learn to Risk, Release, and Soar, by Tami Coyne and Karen Weissman.

You really get to know the authors through the questions they ask, and the experiences they share with the reader. You also get to know yourself by asking questions along with them. It's a great read that's kind of different, and it will even fit in a stocking!
