The Vampire Diaries (books 1-4) by L. J. Smith
Rating: 4 Stars
This book was re-published with a different cover recently, and was similar to TWILIGHT by Stephenie Meyer, except this one was first. The Vampire Diaries follows ancient myths more, though.

Lilia
Les Misérables by Victor Hugo
Rating: 5 Stars
A touching story with love, action, and adventure. My favorite classic so far!

Nicole
Twilight by Stephenie Meyer
Rating: 5 Stars
Best vampire romance ever! If you haven't read this, you don't know what you're missing out on.

Nicole
The Invisible Man by H. G. Wells

An awesome classic that is not incredibly long. It's interesting in a can't-put-it-down way!

Sarah

This book is so amazing. I loved it.

Nemanja
Martyn Pig by Kevin Brooks
Rating: 3 Stars
Great book about a kid who kills his father accidentally and has to face the hard consequences.

ASHLEY
Identical by Ellen Hopkins
Rating: 5 Stars
This is so interesting. I used to think books written in verse were lame, but this one was amazing!

Jessica
The Perks of Being A Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky
Rating: 5 Stars
I've read this book several times; it is by far my favorite for some reason. It's really interesting and not cliché.

Medens G.
The Specialists: Model Spy by Shannon Greenland
Rating: 5 Stars
This book will definitely surprise you. It is, so far, one of the best books I have ever read. And to top it all off, there are four in the series so you'll be entertained by this amazing series for awhile!

Brendan
Crank by Ellen Hopkins
Rating: 5 Stars
CRANK is one of the best books I have ever read during my fourteen years on Earth! I loved this book; it tells what happens when one ventures into smoking crystal meth. Great read: 5 stars!

Bailey
Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson
Rating: 5 Stars
This book is very good. I loved it. I read it in school so I thought it might not be that good, but it is! I think it's a great book for teenagers because so many can relate to Melinda and the teen parties and pressure. It's very sad at times, but it's very good.

Bailey
Poseur by Rachel Maude and Compai
Rating: 4 Stars
I haven't finished this book yet but it's pretty good so far. Its a little confusing sometimes in the beginning but it gets better. I can't wait to finish it!

Jean
The Midnighters: The Secret Hour by Scott Westerfield
Rating: 5 Stars
It's a really awesome book. I couldn't out it down.

Morgan
The Tin Princess by Philip Pullman
Rating: 3 Stars
This was writen by the author of THE GOLDEN COMPASS. It has characters from the Sally Lockhart Triology, also by Pullman. Adelaide has become a princess, and when her husband is killed, has to become queen of Razkavia.

Ciera
Tithe by Holly Black
Rating: 3 Stars
I am just beginning this book and I like it so far. It has a different set of characters than I usually read about.

Tori
Forever by Judy Bloom
Rating: 2 Stars
This book, I was shocked to find, was inappropriate for some ages. If I had to "rate it", as they do for movies, I would have given it an "R". When I saw Judy Bloom's name on the cover, I assumed it would be cute and clean, as her other books are. However, my friends and I started to refer to this book as "that porn book". It was that bad. The story line was great! I enjoyed reading it. I just would like everyone to know what they're about to read. My mother, who is a middle school teacher, almost put that on her shelf. That book is not for middle schoolers.

Austin
Eragon by Christopher Paolini
Rating: 4 Stars
Christopher Paolini's ERAGON has been a must read since it came out in 2003. Avid young readers have been begging for more ever since they put it down. Action packed and filled with magic and battles, it is a delight to fiction lovers. Filled with characters and betrayal, this is still a definite need-to-read if you didn't get to read it in its early years. So stop by your local Barnes & Noble or Borders and pick it up. You have to. This is a great book by a great author, and it has sequels! And there is a little bit of romance in it too! Will Saphira and Eragon make it to the Varden? Should they trust Murtagh? Read to find out.

Janine
Queste by Angie Sage
Rating: 5 Stars
QUESTE is a magic book centered around a young wizard named Septimus Heap. Septimus unknowingly goes on a queste and has a "wonderous" time trying to get back his brother and his friend. This leads them to a castle where all time meets and they get stuck there and can't get out until something so magical happens. But you have to read the book to find out what happens!

Janine
H.I.V.E by Mark Walden
Rating: 5 Stars
H.I.V.E is one of the best mystery/spy books in the world. It has one an award and in the future. will win many more. There is a sequel that will make it even better. This book has four main characters. Laura is my favorite and she is the smartest in technology.

Two Steps Forward by Rachel Cohn
Rating: 3 Stars
It wasn't bad, even though it was a beach novel. I liked how the chapters were from 4 different perspectives. It was a little confusing with the whole family, step-brother, ex husband/wife thing though. I liked how the author described the places and personalities of the characters. It really helped me understand their perspectives more.

Jessica
The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins
Rating: 5 Stars
Excellent. Suspenseful, thought provoking, and gut wrenching.

Maudie
My Mother the Cheerleader by Robert Sharenow
Rating: 4 Stars
This book is about a girl who goes to an integrated school. You may look at the title of the book and think that that fact is not relevant, but really it is. Her mother is not the peppy cheerleader but actually the opposite --- a racist who protests against blacks being educated in the same learning space as whites. Her mother marches outside the school with signs excluding blacks from school, and she has to deal with it everyday. Read this book to find out what adventures this poor girl has with her mother the cheerleader.

Melanie
Breaking Dawn by Stephenie Meyer
Rating: 5 Stars
I completely loved this book; it was the best out of all the series (TWILIGHT, NEW MOON, and ECLIPSE). These books are so good! They are now also making a movie out of the first book, TWILIGHT! Make sure to check it out!

Melanie
Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher
Rating: 5 Stars
This book was amazing! But, it was also sad, and it even made me cry! It's about this girl who committed suicide and is now telling everyone why (sounds kind of confusing but read it and then you will get it)! I could relate to this book in so many ways. I broke down after reading it. I strongly recommend it to everyone!

Melanie

Really good for readers young and old.

Izzy
Twilight by Stephenie Meyer
Rating: 5 Stars
This was an absolutely amazing book! It had a great and illustrious plot, a wonderful and descriptive setting, and above all, fantastic characters. Stephenie Meyer did a great job of portraying each character in his or her own unique personality with fun little quirks for all of the main characters. My two favorites were Bella and Edward because they make such a good pair and because their personalities mesh so well. I also loved the new character that was created during this book --- she was truly amazing! Once again, I loved this book and recommend it to all who haven't read it. Also, if you haven't read the Twilight series, I suggest you read it! Go Bella and Edward and all of the rest of the characters in the Twilight series!

Twilight by Stephanie Meyer
Rating: 5 Stars
I loved this book! It was wonderfully written with amazing little twists, and it had a dynamic and interesting plot! Once I started reading, I couldn't stop! Literally, for a week or so I had my book in hand and whenever I got a chance, I was reading! I highly recommend this book for many reasons, but to me, the main reason is for its characters. Bella and Edward are as prominent and loving as ever and when a new character comes to life, she is portrayed magnificently! Once again, I recommend this book to all who haven't read it and I also recommend the whole Twilight series!

Code Talkers by Joeseph Bruchac
Rating: 4 Stars
This book is incredible! It shows a completely different side of World War II that you will never discuss in History class. It really gives you an appreciation for everything our troops do, in this case making an unbreakable code in Navajo. It amazed me what these brave Navajos did for our country. This book gave me an insight on what life as a Navajo Indian was like in the 1940s. It was horrible how we treated them.

The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath
Rating: 4 Stars
This is an autobiography (of sorts) about a journalist in the '40s. The book begins with Esther in New York, fulfilling her duties as junior editor after winning a contest. But the book slowly evolves into something darker. Even though Esther has so many opportunities, she surrenders to the inner abyss of her soul, and spirals downward into a mental breakdown. All while this is happening, she is recounting her past memories with her college sweethearts, and Mother. A pretty good read :)

Justin
Under a War-Torn Sky by L. M. Elliot
Rating: 5 Stars
This book is for anyone who loves adventure novels with historic backgrounds. It's 1944 and Hank, a 19-year- old American bomber, gets shot down during his 15th mission and crash lands near the Swiss border. Along his treacherous journey back home, many people feel sympathy for him and help as much as they can to get back to the states. A lot of French is mixed in the text, so if you can read the French part, you might understand the story a little better than someone who can read it. Anyway, it's a great World War II novel and I believe French-speaking WWII buffs will get the most out of it. For those who don't fall under that category, this is still great award-winning historical fiction.

Katie
Drums, Girls, and Dangerous Pie by Jorden Sonnenblick
Rating: 5 Stars
This is an amazing book. It gives you an idea of what cancer victims' siblings' lives were like.

Izzy
The Sisters Grimm by Micheal Buckley
Rating: 5 Stars
This series is one of the top ten I have read. If you like fantasy that relates to stuff in the real world, read this series! Basically, it's about two sisters whose parents mysteriously disappear. The are put into a horrible orphanage and go from one foster parent to the next until their grandmother (who they thought was dead) claims them. They then discover that they are the living descendants of the Brothers Grimm, and that the books they wrote were actually accounts of fairy tale mysteries! This series has everything! Surprising twists, hilarious fairy tale jokes, and an addicting plot that makes you not able to put it down! I would definitely recommend this series to just about all ages!

Uglies by Scott Westerfeld
Rating: 5 Stars
UGLIES by Scott Westerfeld is an amazing book set in a future time frame. The main character is a girl named Tally, who has wanted to become pretty her whole life. "Becoming Pretty" is a surgery you get when you turn sixteen that makes you incredibly gorgeous, and for the rest of your life, all you do is go to parties and have fun. After this operation, you move from Uglyville to New Pretty Town, where the excitement begins. Tally's best friend Peris has already had the operation and is waiting for Tally, but he seems a little different. Meanwhile Tally has done mischievous pranks all her life out of boredom. Right after Peris is turned pretty, Tally meets an equally audacious young girl named Shay who teaches Tally how to hoverboard and do many cool new tricks. As Shay and Tally get closer and closer as friends, Tally soon discovers Shay does not want to get the "Pretty Operation". Shay runs away to an secret living space where other runaways have ventured to called the Smoke. Soon Tally realizes the horrible twist on the operation, and perhaps why her old friend Peris was acting so strange. If you are looking for a book and are ready to read some action and a can't-put-down kind of story, UGLIES is your best bet. Please buy this book --- you will not regret it.

DC
Wherever Nina Lies by Lynn Weingarten
Rating: 2 Stars
I am a high school librarian and I'm always looking for new YA authors and new books to add to our school shelves. This novel won't be one that I will purchase. I wanted to like it --- the ingredients seemed to be there. Unfortunately, this story just never got off the ground. The rest of the plot was thin, contrived, and unrealistic as it evolved. The character of Ellie was the only one that was somewhat developed; the supporting cast was totally stereotypical --- from the absent, completely clueless mother to the gay boss at the coffee shop. The cross-country trek Ellie takes with a stranger, a "hot guy" named Sean, was intrinsically unbelievable and relied on some assumptions about the ability of teenagers to rent hotel rooms at their age and have access to that kind of time away from home, school, jobs, and also the amount of money needed. I don't mind a stretch of credulity in a teen novel now and again, but this was way too much from start to finish. The story fell apart for me as Sean and Ellie start on their harebrained journey in his car, meeting up with random people following a band; the clues or whatever the drawings are just made no sense. There was never any mention of the family enlisting detectives or police to look for this missing girl, the mother's lack of interest in the whereabouts of her daughter, the denouement and revelation of the reason for the disappearance and the lack of contact --- well it just didn't work. I had to force myself to finish. There was no suspense in the book. Ellie was immature with very poor judgment, her friendship with Amanda didn't feel realistic, and the way the book ended all added up to a forgettable read by a debut author. Recommendation: Skip it.

Rating: 3 Stars
I'm reading this for school, and though it's not the best book I've ever read, it's not the worst either. Everyone else in my class hates it, of course, but I don't think that they've given it a chance. If you go into a book expecting to hate it, then you'll hate it.

Hannah Rose
Nineteen Minutes by Jodi Picoult
Rating: 5 Stars
This book is amazing, in a heartbreaking way. It's about the events leading up to and after a school shooting, but it's so much more than that. It's a book that demands that you see every point of view.

I hope someday to be a high school English Teacher, and if I do, I would make all my students read this book. That way, maybe they would think twice before bullying anyone again.

Beautifully written.

Such a Pretty Girl by Laura Weiss
Rating: 4 Stars
This was a really good book. It took me a couple times to really pick it up and start reading it, but after I got past the slow beginning, it was dramatic. The book has a pretty sick storyline and made me realize how lucky I am. Meredith was promised 9 years of safety, but they let her father out after 3. Her father sexually abused her for years and even though she's told her mother about it, not much was done. Let me rephrase that, *nothing* was done. The mother loved the father so much and didn't want him to go to jail. So, when Meredith told someone about it, her mother was furious and told her it was all her fault. Meredith had ruined the family. You're probably wondering why I didn't give this book a five instead of four. I rarely give out fives. Twilight and Harry Potter have fives. So of course, hardly anything can compete with Twilight and Harry Potter, but Such a Pretty Girl is definitely up there on my list.

This book takes you deep into the heart of a teen girl who struggles with the reality of who she is. She has an abusive, alcoholic father, and a silent-to-the-bone mother. When she is sent away for the summer to live with her aunt, dark secrets unravel about her father's past. She also meets someone, someone who loves her for being herself, but at the last moment, will it all come crashing down?
