Rochelle
Dreamland by Sarah Dessen
Rating: 5 Stars
This book is really good! It bbasically tells the moral that the decisions you make affect the people around you.

Rochelle
A Piece of Cake by Cupcake Brown
Rating: 5 Stars
This is a really good book! Its moral is that you can rise from bad circumstances and be a role model.

Shayna
Pretty Monsters by Kelly Link
Rating: 5 Stars
Funny, touching stories that combine reality and fantasy.

L
Living Dead Girl by Elizabeth Scott
Rating: 5 Stars
This book was creepy, yet one of the best books of '08.

Teagan
The Adoration of Jenna Fox by Mary E. Pearson
Rating: 4 Stars
A very captivating read. It was very well written and I found all of the characters to be very interesting. I give it four stars, even though I didn't get that 'wow, let me sit and let the amazingness soak in' feeling after reading it, but I think that has something to do with the ending. I believe the story would have been more effective if it ended at a different part. However, that is just my opinion. I still recommend this book. :)

Paradox
The Dead and the Gone by Susan Beth Pfeffer
Rating: 4 Stars
This book is a companion to LIFE AS WE KNEW IT, but is set in New York City. If you read the first book, you would remember that the story begins when an asteroid hits the moon and moves it closer to the earth with disasterous effects. Flooding of coastal cities, disappearance of entire countries under water, volcanic eruptions, climate change, crops dead, communications satellites no longer operational. Millions die, and those who are left begin to go hungry.

It's not a eek-scary story, but somehow scares you more deeply than any monster, because we have something similar to worry about now... global warming.

The main character's parents disappear on the day the moon is hit and he is left to take care of his younger sisters in increasingly bleak surroundings. Time begins to run out...

I probably won't read this book again, because it can be a bit morbid and sad, but I'm glad I read it. It also goes into some concepts that make me worry about people, like whether we really do care about other people and what would cause us to sink to levels we never would have gone before.

Paradox
Simon Bloom, The Gravity Keeper by Michael Reisman
Rating: 4 Stars
Before I read this book, I thought I'd pretty much seen it all when it came to characters with powers. There's magic, ESP, mutant abilities, psionic powers, or even "the manipulation of the world's energy" in books, but this book did something different.

The main character, Simon Bloom, becomes the keeper of a Book that contains the laws of physics themselves, and tells him how to change them. It surprised me how much the alteration of the laws of physics could work out as a "superpower".

One thing that takes away from the book is that some of the dialogue, especially from the villians, doesn't seem quite natural or believable.

This is more a middle-grade novel than a teen novel, but I loved it anyway.

Paradox
The Adoration of Jenna Fox by Mary E. Pearson
Rating: 5 Stars
I really loved this book! It wasn't an epic or action-filled story, but it really made me think. And the plot was very well planned out, and some of the revelations shocked me. It was very suspenseful, and the main character was very believable.

It began when Jenna Fox wakes up from a coma she's been in for a year after a horrible accident, but some things seem very wrong. Her parents aren't telling her something...

Paradox
Gone by Michael Grant
Rating: 5 Stars
I loved this book so much! It's one of the best I've read the entire year! It's a bit like THE GIRL WHO OWNED A CITY crossed with X-Men. First, everyone 15 and over disappears. This may sound corny, but the story gets more complex and intriguing as it continues. The good news is, it's the first in a six book series. Bad news, the next book won't be published for months.

Alex
Crime and Punishment by Feodor Dostoevsky
Rating: 4 Stars
As far as books for school go, this one is really good. I'm about a third of the way through it and I can barely put it down. The only thing that I don't like about it is that the characters names are all in Russian and therefore a little bit of a pain to pronounce and read.

Paradox
The Declaration by Gemma Malley
Rating: 3 Stars
To tell the truth, I was a little disappointed in this book because it wasn't what I expected it to be. I thought it would be more of a fast-paced futuristic thriller with a wide range of locations and characters fighting against the corrupt government. But most of the story took place in one building, and not much is really explained. Also, the main character is brainwashed for most of the story.

The story takes place over 100 years in the future, when people have come up with a drug to make them immortal, and having children is illegal. The children that are born are called Surpluses, and are taught that they shouldn't exist and are made into servants. The only legal children are those with parents who opt out of the Declaration, which they must sign to get longevity drugs. The main character, Anna, lives in a home for surpluses and is taught to hate her parents for letting her be born. She believes everything she is told, until a boy is brought to the home who says he knew her parents and they want her back.

I'm hoping that the story will show more about this future world in the sequal, THE RESISTANCE.

Paradox
Princess Ben by Catherine Murdock
Rating: 4 Stars
I enjoyed this book a lot, despite its similarities to the other "rebellious princess" stories.

The story is good, and I love how Ben discovers magic, but I'm disappointed that the book never explained much about the magic in her family.

The book is written as if by Ben when she is much older, so some of the wording seems a bit off for a 15-year-old girl.

I also thought the ending didn't come out quite right, but the parts about Ben practicing magic in the tower room made up for a lot of what was wrong.

Rukshana
Girls in Pants by Ann Brashares
Rating: 5 Stars
I loved this book. It was a great story about four girls growing up. I hope to read more books like this one.

Ruby
Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson
Rating: 5 Stars
This book really expresses the desperation going through the head of a person who is going through something traumatic.

Rukshana
Go Ask Alice by Anonymous
Rating: 5 Stars
I really enjoyed this book. It was an actual diary about a girl on drugs and on the run. It's brutally honest and I loved every second of it. Read it.

Rebekah
Impulse by Ellen Hopkins
Rating: 5 Stars
She is the best writer ever! Hopkins doens't fool around!

Morgan
Being by Kevin Brooks
Rating: 5 Stars
This is the first book I've read by Brooks, and it's not going to be the last. His style and plot really kept me interested.

A boy goes in for a doctor's appointment and what the doctor's find in beyond belief. He seems to not be human. Now he's on the run and takes Eddi, a thief, as his hostage.

Christy
Shadow Kiss by Richelle Mead
Rating: 5 Stars
This is the third book in the Vampire Academy series and I highly recommend you read the first two books before this one. I read all 400 plus pages of this book in one day: it grabbed my attention from the very first and I could not put it down. Intense, suspenseful and full of shocking surprises --- I can't wait until the next book is released!

Jade
Peaches by Jodi Lynn Anderson
Rating: 4 Stars
A great read. Three unlikely girls become friend because of a peach orchard that bring them together.

Allie
Life As We Knew It by Susan Beth Pfeffer
Rating: 5 Stars
This book is really depressing as Miranda's family and friends are stuck in a world-wide disaster this book shows how one family can stick together and work every problem out.

Des
Uglies by Scott Westerfeld
Rating: 5 Stars
Although this isn't my first time reading this book, I never get enough of it. I love Uglies because it is futuristic, yet if you look hard enough, everything you see in the story you can see in our present-day world. I own the entire series and read them constantly.

Des
Tithe by Holly Black
Rating: 5 Stars
Faerie tales have always been a favorite of mine. When I first got this book from the library, it completely revamped the type of faerie tales I preferred. This is the story about a teenager with real angst and real problems, one of the problems being that she is a faerie. Its a creepy and horrifying story that kept my attention until the very last page.

Christy H.
Twilight by Stephenie Meyer
Rating: 5 Stars
With this fourth and final installment of the Twilight series I found myself hopelessly caught up in the suspenseful storytelling and wasn’t able to put the book down. Ms. Meyer created characters that seemed like real people whom I cared about deeply and was rooting for throughout the whole series. This was a wonderful fairy tale/fantasy read, and I could have easily read another 700 pages. I highly recommend this fun, creative and thought-provoking saga. Vampires, werewolves (shape-shifters) and a satisfying happily-ever-after --- doesn’t get any better!

Rachael
The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins
Rating: 5 Stars
This book is amazing! I heard about and put off getting it, because I didn't think it would live up to the hype. It did! I can't put it down and I' m dying for the sequel already!

Lucia T.
Graceling by Kristin Cashore
Rating: 4 Stars
Very interesting and gripping fantasy novel about a girl who is a"Graceling" --- she has special abilities. Katsa can kill and once her 'talent' is revealed she is shunned and feared by many.

The story is different and the characters will suck you into their lives. Recommended.

Carly
Dairy Queen by Catherine Gilbert Murdock
Rating: 5 Stars
The characters are really down to earth. Its great because it tells the story of a girl in Wisconsin with messed-up family.

Paige
Bright Shiny Morning by James Frey
Rating: 5 Stars
This book is enticing and takes you through the lives of 5 different characters, all living seperate lives and all affected by the place that they live. California --- a place where hopes and dreams aren't all they are cracked up to be.

Paige
Crank by Ellen Hopkins
Rating: 5 Stars
This book, along with its sequel GLASS, is one of the most amazing books I have ever read. The way Hopkins writes is impeccable, and the story has so much life, love, and thought to it. It is written in paragraphs that are set as lyrics or designs. It is a book you can read in one night. It just sucks you in and you can't let it go.

KC
Infinite Jest by David Foster Wallace
Rating: 4 Stars
I'm liking it so far! Very interesting, and I can't wait to see how the plot comes together.

KayLee
The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time by Mark Haddon
Rating: 4 Stars
I just finished this book. At first I thought it was a children's book, but when I got into it, it turned into a really amazing story!

WKM
Vampirates III: Blood Captain by Justin Somper
Rating: 3 Stars
This is no TWILIGHT but it is entertaining. If you enjoy vampires and pirates or adventure stories, you will enjoy this. It is set in a totally unrealistic world, but the characters are very likable.

Meg
Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoyevsky
Rating: 4 Stars
Great book!

Hope
Skinned by Robin Wasserman
Rating: 4 Stars
I loved this book, it read well. The plot was really believable and could happen in the near future.

Jennifer Neely
Twice Upon a Marigold by Jean Ferris
Rating: 4 Stars
Though this book does not quite hold the same charm as the original, ONCE UPON A MARIGOLD, it is still a well-written tale. It is great catching up with the cast of characters that you already care for.

Yan

I just began reading MESSAGE IN A BOTTLE by Nicholas Sparks and so far, it's been interesting and really good. Nicholas Sparks is known for his romanctic books and this one is definitely no different. I would recommend this book to anyone who really loves romance!

Jessica
Let it Snow by John Green, Maureen Johnson, Lauren Myracle

This book was amazing. It had three holiday romances that were interlocked but seperate at the same time. I laughed my whole way through it and await Christmas to come. ^_^

Best book I've read in a long, long time. Totally captivating and intriguing. A must read for all!

Winifred Berkle
World Without End by Ken Follett
Rating: 5 Stars
This book really entwines the reader to the story. You feel the pain, the love, and the hardships. It truly is facanating and a "can't put down 'till finished" kind of book. You will feel the life of all and breathe it in. And although this book is adult fiction, I hope you enjoy.

Cache
Breaking Dawn by Stephenie Meyer
Rating: 5 Stars
I've read all three books of the Twilight Saga. I own two of the books. Now, I'm going to get the fourth book. I also think that you should read this because it is awesome.

Jordan
Twilight by Stephenie Meyer
Rating: 5 Stars
TWILIGHT is the best book ever! This book is truly an interesting and amazing tale of a love between a vampire and human. I was quite hesitant about getting this book, because I'm not into vampires and anything like that, but this book is so much more than a bunch of vampires.

Amanda
Burned by Ellen Hopkins

This book was so exciting! It kept me on edge throughtout almost the whole book!

Zehra
The Crucible by Arthur Miller
Rating: 3 Stars
It is actually a play, and it is an allegory of what happened in World War II. It shows how some stupid accusation could lead people to kill other people. For a play, it was very fun to read, and the plot develops really nicely.

Sophia
New Moon by Stephenie Meyer
Rating: 5 Stars
This book was so good! The only thing was it was very sad, but overall, it keptme stuckt ill I got to the very end.

Hope
Snow Flower and the Secret Fan by Lisa See
Rating: 4 Stars
The book was a good one. It is amazing to see what girls (and women) had to put up with in 19th-century Chinia; from getting their feet bound, assigned marriages, and not even guaranteed a place in your husband's home if you do not have a son. Our world has changed a lot since then.

Ashly
Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens
Rating: 4 Stars
I haven't really started, but I've heard it's very good and from the first page, I can tell it's going to be a very stimulating book.

Kimberly H
The Seeing Stone by Toni DiTerlizzi and Holly Black
Rating: 4 Stars
This is the second book in The Spiderwick Chronicles<.i>. These books are very good! I love all the imagination Holly and Tony put into it! It's fantastic!

Marlena Harold
Unbelievable: A Pretty Little Liars Novel by Sara Shepard
Rating: 2 Stars
In the end, this series will be not be remembered. The conclusion proved to be more strung out than the previous novels and I can't understand where the new books are supposed to continue from. Far too much reliance on mean-girl tactics and product placement to move through a recycled plot.

Elizabeth
Fatal Charm by Linda Joy Singleton
Rating: 4 Stars
The final book (as of now Singleton is unsure of a possible continuation) in The Seer series was one of the best! It kept me hooked just like her other books!

Sudi
The Visitation by Frank Peretti
Rating: 5 Stars
Really awesome! I like all his books --- they really get you involved and I could hardly put the book down.

Lisa
Tyrell by Coe Booth
Rating: 5 Stars
I read Coe Booth's second novel, KENDRA, first and loved it so much that I had to go back and read TYRELL. It's a heartbreaking, amazing story.

Lillie
A-List Series by Zoe Dean
Rating: 5 Stars

Marlena Harold
Astonishing Life of Octavian Nothing: Pox Party by M.T. Anderson
Rating: 4 Stars
Highly readable historical fiction. Anderson is authentic to the period but does not bore the reader. Can't wait to read Part 2.

Marlena Harold
Evolution, Me & Other Freaks of Nature by Robin Brande
Rating: 4 Stars
An excellent read about a girl caught up in her former church's zealous campaign to remove evolution from the local high school curriculum. The story is engrossing and relates well to current events. Brande does an excellent job of keeping the book from becoming a religion-bashing fest.

Loren
The Shack by William P. Young
Rating: 5 Stars
This book is amazing! It changed how I look at the world!

Eleanor
The Color Purple by Alice Walker
Rating: 4 Stars
It is so inspiring how someone can come from so little, and end up with so much.

Shannon H
My Sweet Audrina by V. C. Andrews
Rating: 5 Stars
The book is very twisted, and until the end, you would probably be confused. I definitely didn't expect the ending.

Hadley
The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins
Rating: 5 Stars
Stephenie Meyer suggested this book on her website, so i'm sure a lot of you have already read it. If you didn't take her word for it, take mine; this book is fantastic! It's not the same type of stuff you always read, it's very original. It's captivating and you can't put it down... I'm so ready for the next one!

Shannon H.
Cathy's Book by Sean Stewart
Rating: 5 Stars
The interactiveness of the book is amazing. I think it is the most amzing 4-d book, you get to read, and do some sleuthing for yourself.

Sadie Berger
Skulduggery Pleasant by Derek Landy
Rating: 3 Stars
Having an older man as a friend isn't easy... especially if he's a skeleton. Why did Derek Landy make Stephanie only 12? Too young, I believe, for the mature things that come from her. This five-star-worthy book would have gotten it if Landy had made her more plausable.

Landy winds this tale tightly, but lets it spin too fast and let-me-guess towards the end. A good read, but it doesn't exactly leave you begging for more.

Shannon H
Flowers in the Attic by V. C. Andrews
Rating: 4 Stars
Though the book is dark and very twisted, it gets very addicting. It's like you kind of predict whats going to happen, but you still want to read more of it.

Cassandra
The Friends by Rosa Guy
Rating: 4 Stars
This book gave a bit of insight into the lives of teens. It shows the struggles that they [we] go through. I really did like this book, and I would recommend it to anyone.

Caitlin
Nobody Does It Better: A Gossip Girl Novel by Cecily Von Ziegesar
Rating: 4 Stars
This is the 7th book in the Gossip Girl series, and so far, it is pretty good. With this series, sometimes it's hard to put down! I've read three in a week. It's almost as addicting as the show!

Loren
Shattered Mirror by Amelia Atwater-Rhodes
Rating: 3 Stars
This book is really good but kind of confusing at times. It keeps you on your toes.

Loren
The Naming by Alison Croggon
Rating: 4 Stars
I gave this book 4 stars because I compare every book with Harry Potter and TWILIGHT, and nothing can beat those books. THE NAMING amazing, though! I love it! It is like ERAGON with a girl.

Loren
Trickster's Choice by Tamora Pierce
Rating: 4 Stars
This book is awesome! Its sequel is TRICKSTER'S QUEEN. I recommend this book mostly to girls.

Morgan
All We Know of Heaven by Jacquelyn Mitchard

Maximum Ride: The Angel Experiment by James Patterson
Rating: 5 Stars
This book is great! I bought it at the bookstore to see what all the hype was about, since everyone was raving about it. Little did I know that I would love it. James Patterson is so good at making his novel come alive. It's kind of like he's talking to us. It's not completely formal, and that's what I like about it. He's pretty natural. This book is definitely worth reading.

Esther
Beastly by Alex Flinn

Looking for Alaska by John Green
Rating: 5 Stars
I absolutely loved this book. I think a really good book is one that can make you laugh and then cry in the same sentence, and LOOKING FOR ALASKA did just that.

Ali
The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks
Rating: 3 Stars
I was really disappointed by this book, but I think it was partly because I was comparing it to the movie the whole time. I thought that Nicholas Sparks focused too much on Noah and Allie's love, but not enough on why they acutally loved each other,.

Emily
The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd
Rating: 5 Stars
This book was so good, I can't wait to see the movie.

What my Mother Doesn't Know by Sonya Sones
Rating: 5 Stars
Girls, has a guy ever left a note in your locker mysteriously, driving you to hunt to find the "masked man"? This is what happens to Sophie in WHAT MY MOTHER DOESN'T KNOW. At a Halloween dance, her "masked man" asks her to dance. After she falls in love with his forearms and gets close to kissing him, she knows she's in love and must find out who he is.

When Sophie finds her supposed love, will she be shocked or totally in love? She may be a quiet, soft-spoken, boy crazed, and static character until this point, but will she out grow these characteristics when she finds her “masked man”?

To me, Sonya Sones put this book together in a way that doesn’t leave you confused but wandering and wanting to read more. From the minute I started to read it, I knew I would love it, and it stayed the same through the whole book. I will recommend this book to anyone who I know is in the same situation or not in this situation.

If I Should Die Before I Wake by Han Nolan
Rating: 5 Stars
This book was a total page turner. It was so full of suspense and I ended up finishing it in no time. The ending was perfect, tying up any loose ends. I'm very interested in what happened concerning the Hlocaust, so I naturally loved this book. It is in my faves and think it is a book everyone should read.

Briana
The Things They Carried by Tim O' Brien

I liked this book because it held true to the harsh realities of war and didn't try to romanticize everything. The individual short stories ranged from humorous to tear jerking and even to the somewhat grotesque, making an interesting mix that made me want to keep reading. I can honestly say that some of these stories are definitely not suited for those who are weak of stomach when it comes to reading gross details. It is, after all, about the Vietnam War. I, however, personally enjoyed it and think it would be a great read for teens who like reading on a more mature age level. Also, it would be a great book for anyone who is interested in the Vietnam War or war books in general.
