For starters, Christy has barely talked to her former best friend Katie. Ever since Katie started dating Michael, an Irish exchange student, Christy has been pushed out of Katie’s life. Katie is willing to change everything for Michael. The girl who used to consume nothing but junk food is now a health food addict obsessed with saving the environment. And that’s not the only thing Katie has compromised --- she had always promised to date only other Christians, but Michael most certainly does not fit into that category.

When Christy questions her choices, she is only pushed away and told she’s judgmental. However, a series of events leads Katie to believe that Christy may have been right all along, and Katie makes the difficult decision to break up with Michael. Christy rejoices when she finds out she will get her best friend back. But there is one big problem --- Katie is still completely in love with him. Dealing with the fallout of Katie’s relationship may prove to be worse than the relationship itself.

As Christy attempts to help her friend recover, she learns that she may have some recovery of her own to do. Todd has long wanted to become a missionary and receives the offer he has dreamt about. Unfortunately, it comes soon after he makes a big commitment to Christy. Christy realizes that if he accepts the offer, he will be thousands of miles away, and most likely she will never see who she believes to be the love of her life ever again. But if he doesn’t go, he most likely will regret it forever and may even resent Christy for holding him back. Who will Todd decide to follow when making what may be the most important decision of his life? And how will that change the lives of those around him?

SWEET DREAMS sets up the story for what will be the last installment of the Christy Miller series. Gunn does a great job of creating real characters who readers can empathize with, and they most certainly will do so all throughout the book. It tackles some complicated issues --- especially regarding the painful endings of romantic relationships --- that will help any teen struggling with a difficult breakup. SWEET DREAMS has a surprise ending, one that will have fans ready to find out how the drama comes to a close in the final Christy Miller book.
