Hangman's Curse: The Veritas Project, Volume 1

Whenever and wherever the Springfield family receives the presidential summons, they immediately go undercover in search of answers. Regardless of the danger or the circumstances, this four-member team is expertly qualified to seek the truth (or its Latin equivalent "veritas"). So when the call for action arrives, Elijah and Elisha Springfield, the teenage twins of the family, make preparations to begin their investigation at a public high school in Baker, Washington, where three students lie victim to some mysterious (otherworldly?) ailment. In the meantime, father Nate (former county sheriff) and mom Sarah (criminology/forensics professor) swing into action using their combined skills honed in the FBI service.

The crime? Baker High School boasts the presence of a ghost named Abel Frye, who begins tormenting the popular kids. The most recent attack occurs during a football game when star athlete Jim Boltz starts running the wrong way down the field before collapsing and hallucinating. Given the spread of the rumor that the Gothic kids, most notably leader Ian Snyder, control the ghost, the kids are running scared. It is the Springfields' task to discover who or what is behind these life-threatening incidents.

Befriending other students and unobtrusively gathering information, the Springfield twins manage to get close to the suspects while attempting to unravel the mystery behind the hangman's curse scrawled on the victim's lockers, plastic straws filled with an indefinable substance, and the underground room filled with witches' paraphernalia. As the case unfolds, all four Springfields encounter setbacks, personal danger and spiritual opposition. The final and key question for this team of investigators is how much of the danger is physical and how much is spiritual.

As the crimes continue and the fear escalates, the Springfields are afraid that their time is running out. Will they or won't they piece together the seemingly unrelated facts that threaten to take even more lives, including their own?
