Life

Ayumu and her best friend Shii-chan are right in the middle of the dreaded high school entrance exams. These exams determine their entire fate: where they'll go to high school, which then leads to where they'll go to college or where they'll work after school. They study intensely, though Ayumu always seems to need a little more help.

Then the unthinkable happens: when Ayumu gets into the high school of her choice and Shii-chan doesn't, their friendship shatters. Ayumu's new high school seems colorless without Shii-chan, and Ayumu starts cutting to relieve the tension and escape the pain. A ray of hope appears with a new friend, Manami, drawing Ayumu out of her depression, but will she really help heal Ayumu's broken heart?

This intense look at the enormous pressure that students endure and the lengths they go to escape it resonates with teens everywhere, highlighting the allure and danger of self-destructive behavior.
