The Lies About Truth

Courtney C. Stevens is the young adult novelist of the 2015 release, THE LIES ABOUT TRUTH. She is also the author of the 2014 release, FAKING NORMAL. The e-novella that precedes FAKING NORMAL is THE BLUE-HAIRED BOY. Courtney Stevens is also the author of the DRESS CODES FOR SMALL TOWNS, which is releasing in August 2017.

THE LIES ABOUT TRUTH is the story of Sadie Kingston, a girl who has survived a deadly car accident that killed her friend, Trent, and disfigured her. Since the accident occurred, Sadie has closed herself off and tried to find ways to deal with her grief. Trent’s brother, Max, and his family moved to another continent for a year after the accident. Sadie constantly exchanges emails with Max, and they both begin to fall for each other while bonding over their grief. Sadie must try to fix her relationship with her old friends and ex-boyfriend and figure out how she wants to handle her new relationship with Max.

"THE LIES ABOUT TRUTH was an emotional story that offered elements of mystery that take the reader for an entertaining ride."

The prospect of reading THE LIES ABOUT TRUTH was an exciting one for me. I admittedly went into the novel with high expectations as I read and loved Courtney’s first novel, FAKING NORMAL. I found FAKING NORMAL to be such an underrated young adult novel, and it definitely set the bar for what I wanted from THE LIES ABOUT TRUTH. Luckily, I really enjoyed reading THE LIES ABOUT TRUTH. Courtney Stevens just has a way of writing enthralling and inspiring characters and plots.

Throughout the novel, there were emails between Sadie and Max that totally grew on me. I was not sure how I felt about the story being interrupted by them at first, but I definitely cherished them by the end. Max and Sadie’s relationship was so genuine and cute that it was incredibly fun to read about. I think this novel really put the spotlight on relationships and how important they are. Sadie had such amazing people in her life, and it was enlightening to see her journey to realizing just how important it was to maintain those relationships.

Sadie’s friend, Gina, and ex-boyfriend, Gray, added a different element to the story. I enjoyed reading about their lives, and they improved the overall story significantly. Sadie’s parents were also amazing to Sadie. I loved seeing another set of exceptional parents represented. THE LIES ABOUT TRUTH was an emotional story that offered elements of mystery that take the reader for an entertaining ride.

I recommend THE LIES ABOUT TRUTH to readers who are not afraid of reading something heavy. This novel has its light moments as well, and it is a truly impactful read. Courtney Stevens has written a winner with THE LIES ABOUT TRUTH.
