The Rise of Nine

Review

The Rise of Nine

When the nine Loriens first arrived on earth, a powerful charm prevented them from being killed off out of order by the evil Mogadorians. That all changed once Number Four, John, and Number Six combined forces. Their partnership eventually led to the discovery of more Loriens, Number Seven and Number Nine, and in an interesting twist, Number Ten. Simply working together doesn’t mean they’ll survive, however, and there’s some unfinished business to take care of before the remaining Loriens can unite and achieve their ultimate goal.

"THE RISE OF NINE delivers. Not only are there intense action scenes where every Lorien (if you can keep them straight in your brain) plays an important role, there is also more insight into the background and potential future of their mission."

Six, Seven and Ten decide to find the remaining Loriens and are in hot pursuit of a powerful individual rumored to be living in India. Before they actually meet Number Eight, though, they come to a startling realization. While before they thought it was the Loriens against the Mogadorians, it now seems as though the Mogadorians have enlisted the various governments of the world to fight against the Loriens. It appears that the battle has grown a lot more complicated. There’s no time to worry about that, though, and Six, Seven and Ten are thrilled to meet Eight, who seems to be very powerful.

John and Nine aren’t sure which mission to pursue. John wants to go after his friend Sam and his love interest, Sarah, after they both sacrificed themselves to save John and Nine. Nine wants to stock up on ammo and then figure out a plan. For his part, John keeps having dreams where he’s battling the powerful Mogadorian, Setrakus Ra. The dreams always seem so real, and John isn’t sure whether or not they could perhaps be what will actually happen in the future. If that’s the case, he doesn’t want to tell anyone that these dreams mean certain doom for the Loriens. The dreams are also pushing him towards the west, and he can’t ignore the pull to his destiny.

What is John’s destiny? Before joining John and Nine in New Mexico, Eight shows the rest of the Loriens a cave with drawings depicting the future --- and not everyone survives. Eight also reveals that one of the remaining Loriens is supposed to be equipped with all of Pittacus Lore’s powers and is supposed to be the most powerful Lorien ever. All of this won’t matter, though, if no one survives, and Setrakus Ra would like nothing more than to see this happen. The only way to stop this is for all the Loriens to unite and prevail no matter what the cost.

Well, it’s about time. After seeing some of the Loriens work together in the previous book, THE POWER OF SIX, I kept wanting more. THE RISE OF NINE delivers. Not only are there intense action scenes where every Lorien (if you can keep them straight in your brain) plays an important role, there is also more insight into the background and potential future of their mission. There is still much to be discovered, and THE RISE OF NINE will satisfy your desire --- for now.
