Wake the Hollow

Review

Wake the Hollow

WAKE THE HOLLOW by Gabby Triana is a cross between a modern teen romance novel and a historical fiction novel. For a hopeless romantic and history nerd like myself this book was a much too short slice of heaven. Triana does an amazing job of making historical facts and theories jump off the page and come alive in the minds of her readers. I loved every word and have already reread almost all of it!

Micaela Burgos did not mean to abandon her mother. It was six years ago that she moved with her father to Miami and left her mother in Sleepy Hollow to obsess over her research of the town hero Washington Irving. She always assumed that her mother would eventually realize the error of her ways and move down to Miami to live with them. But six years have gone by without so much as a visit. Now Mica is coming back to Sleepy Hollow but not for the reason she had hoped.

"Triana's WAKE THE HOLLOW has made it to my list of all-time favorites and will stay there until I find someone who can match her skill of weaving suspense with anxiety, excitement, passion, and romance."

A few weeks before, Mica received a note from her mother with six simple words "Lela please come home. It's urgent.” Now her mother, Maria Burgos, is dead. Mica has come back to get some closure and do whatever her mother needed her to do before she died. But her past with Sleepy Hollow is shrouded by more than just the cryptic note and six years of tension between her mother and father. When Mica returns she has to face her elementary school sweetheart, Bram, who has turned out to be shockingly handsome and has no reservations about letting Mica know his feelings for her. To make matters worse, his family hated the whole Burgos family and thought Maria was nothing but a loon and a thief.

Just a few hours into her stay, the voices came back. Whispers, visions and dreams of the same wailing faceless woman cloud Mica's thoughts as she attempts to cope with the loss of her mother and sort through her feelings for Bram and the mysterious and gorgeous new teaching assistant, Dane, who shares her love of history and has an avid interest in her well-being. But things get even more complicated when evidence arises that may prove Maria's work to be valid. As Mica nears the answers to all of her questions she uncovers danger lurking behind every corner of Sleepy Hollow. Mica soon begins to question the loyalty of those around her and her abilities to decide who to place her trust in. It seems only her dreams give her the hints of the truth she so longs for and even some of those lead to dead ends. She soon realizes that to uncover the truth about Bram, Dane and Maria's life work and death, she must decide who to fear and who to trust before it's too late. If she fails to do this she may very well meet her mother's same fate.

WAKE THE HOLLOW is an incredible book. There is no other way to describe it. It is the perfect combination of mystery, adventure, romance, intrigue and suspense all wrapped up in one. I could have read another 500 pages of this book. One minute I was swept up in the romance the next I was scared for my life and turning on every light in my room. I fell I love with these characters and I have never felt more conflicted in my life! I just wanted this book to last forever. Triana's WAKE THE HOLLOW has made it to my list of all-time favorites and will stay there until I find someone who can match her skill of weaving suspense with anxiety, excitement, passion, and romance.
