Teen Board Monthly Question

February 2018, Part 1

Flowers, chocolates, romance novels --- February is in full swing and we’re in a lovey-dovey mood here at Teenreads. To get in the spirit of things, we asked our Teen Board members a few questions about book boyfriends, romance novels, and OTPs. First, we asked if they have a favorite book boyfriend or girlfriend --- AKA a character they would love to date, if only he or she was real?  We know not everyone is ready to bare their bookish crush to the world, so we also asked about a scene from a book that they feel would make the perfect dream date. Of course, for those members whom Cupid hasn’t quite struck yet this season, we asked them to tell us about their favorite romance novel and/or OTP -- One True Pairing --- and why it stands out. Read below for the first half of their answers, and click here for the rest!

My book boyfriend is definitely Rhysand from the A Court of Thorns and Roses series by Sarah J Maas. No words can describe him, he’s the definition of perfect. I fell in love with him when I first read about him. And the perfect dream date would probably be to just hang out with him in the night court. That sounds like a perfect date to me!! --- Abigail D.

My book boyfriend is Dorian from the Throne of Glass series, mostly because he's a bookworm too and has really cool superpowers. My favorite romance book is definitely one of the books in the To All the Boys I've Loved Before trilogy. It is such a sweet series and Lara Jean was a character I could easily identify with because we had so much in common as Hamilton and cake loving Asian Americans. --- Alice D.

My book boyfriend is Augustus Waters from THE FAULT IN OUR STARS. I fell in love with him at approximately 11am on a summer day when I was eleven and by mid afternoon I was heartbroken. Though our actual relationship was short, he remains my first book boyfriend in my heart. As for a dream date, I would be down for a date in diagon alley or really anywhere in Hogwarts...I'm not really picky as long as Harry Potter is involved :). --- Anna Kate L.

My book boyfriend would definitely be Jace Herondale, he is the best! The Mortal Instruments and all of Cassie Clare’s books are fantastic! I’m not much into romance novels, but my OTP is for sure Day and June (otherwise known as Dune) from the Legend trilogy by Marie Lu, I love them together! --- Ansley K.

If I could, I would most definitely date Jace Harondale from THE MORTAL INSTRUMENTS series. Despite his rude nature, he is full of adventure and that's what I'm looking for. My perfect date would be demon hunting with Jace. How exciting!? --- Ashley D.

There's so many total babes out there in booklandia but my book boyfriend? Levi, from Rainbow Rowell’s FANGIRL. He's so positive and unique and I love him. I'm not sure what we would do, but knowing him he'd come up with something cool, and he could slide me some Starbucks that I'm always craving. --- Becky N.

I have quite the extensive list of fictional boyfriends, but Will Herondale from The Infernal Devices is hands-down at the top of the list. Since I’m a huge book nerd, he obviously meets my criteria of being someone I could fangirl about a good book with. Not only is he a reader, he also is very sweet towards Tessa. Some other characters who make my list are Clark from THE UNEXPECTED EVERYTHING, both Peter Kaminsky and John Ambrose McClaren from the To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before series, Cricket from LOLA AND THE BOY NEXT DOOR, Ford from the Broken Hearts and Revenge series, and my elementary school favorite, Gilbert Blythe from the Anne of Green Gables series. One of my favorite OTPs is definitely Ron and Hermione from the Harry Potter series. While there are many people who don’t ship them, they’re one of my favorite fictional couples of all time and I’ve been shipping them since before I even knew the term! They’ll always have a special place amongst my OTPs since I’ve been a fan of them for so long. --- Breck G.

My dream book boyfriend is and forever will be Levi from FANGIRL by Rainbow Rowell. He is my ideal guy, and I’m constantly on the lookout for Levi look-a-likes. My dream date would be something simple and involve food, of course, just like most of the dates Levi and Cath go on in FANGIRL. Obviously, I love FANGIRL and everything about it. --- Bryn D.

If I had to choose one from my many book crushes throughout the years, it would have to be Will Herondale from The Infernal Devices by Cassandra Clare. Besides being gorgeous, he’s hilariously punny and just a wonderful person beneath his initially cruel exterior. On top of it all, he’s a book lover! Honestly, what more could I ask for? --- Caitlyn K.

My perfect book boyfriend is literally any of the males in Sarah J. Maas’ books. Rowan, Dorian and Rhysand make me swoon every time I read about them. Another good choice, a girl this time,  would be Estrella from WILD BEAUTY by Anna Marie McLemore; she is sweet, daring, and 110% girlfriend material. Even though I love the characters I just mentioned, I wouldn’t go out with them if they were real because I love their relationships with their significant others to be too sweet for me to break them up. Speaking of relationships, it’s really hard for me to pick just one OTP in books so I’m just gonna name a few! They are: Aelin and Rowan from THRONE OF GLASS, Feyre and Rhysand from A COURT OF THORNS AND ROSES, Cinder and Kai from the Lunar Chronicles, Karou and Akiva from DAUGHTER OF SMOKE AND BONE, Simon and Blue from SIMON VS. THE HOMO SAPIENS AGENDA, and Kell and Lila from A DARKER SHADE OF MAGIC. Well, that was more than a few, but what can I say, I’m a sucker for romance. --- Daniella R.

My book boyfriend is 100% Liam Stewart always and forever. The blond hair, the witty humor and of course, the southern accent! He's also super sweet and was honestly one of my favorite parts of reading THE DARKEST MINDS. Literally any scene in ANNA AND THE FRENCH KISS would make for the perfect date. I mean it's set in Paris...city of love anyone?! That would definitely be a dream come true. I'd highly recommend anything by Stephanie Perkins or Jennifer E. Smith if you're looking for the perfect romance novel this Valentine's Day! --- Danielle F.

My favorite romance scene is from WE ARE THE ANTS by Shaun David Hutchinson. I don't want to give too much away, but it's one of the first times that I was able to see two boys kissing in a YA book, and I'll never forget it. Also, it was well written, which definitely helped. --- Dylan C.

I admit I have a slight weakness for a good romance novel. One of my favorite romantic books is THE SELECTION by Kiera Cass, particularly because of the main male character Maxon Schreave. This kind-hearted prince is a character I would definitely date… if only he were real. His love for photography, caring attitude, passion, and protective nature all are qualities I admire in a book boyfriend. Besides that, he is a perfect gentleman and royalty. AKA The perfect package. --- Ellie T.

My all time favorite book boyfriend would have to be William Herondale from The Infernal Devices trilogy by Cassandra Clare, if only he were real! I have loved his character ever since the first book CLOCKWORK ANGEL. We would spend our days lounging around on reading dates and taking long walks in the park. Another character that I really love and wish were real is Cassian from Sarah J. Maas’s A Court of Thorns and Roses trilogy, or Daniel from Lauren Kate’s Fallen series. I absolutely adore them!! --- Emily F.

Fortunately for the Percabeth Community, Percy Jackson and Annabeth Chase are still dating. Sadly that places Percy off the market *sigh*. So, my book boyfriend is Maven Calore. Yes, he is a psycho now (much to my despair) but I absolutely fell for the forgotten prince in the first book. Im not sure about what it was but something drew me to him instead of Cal. If a movie does happen, I hope he lives up to our (the Red Queen fanbase) expectations. It's true that he made a drastic U- turn but I'm sure his persona from the first book is in there somewhere. I'm not sure about what dates we would go on though. I totally disapprove of hunting new bloods so maybe we'd go out to the garden or something. --- Flor H.

After much consideration, I realized that there is only one answer I can give to this question. Without a doubt, my favorite book boyfriend has to be Will Herondale from Cassandra Clare’s The Infernal Devices. Anyone who truly knows me understands my love of Cassie and her phenomenal books. Upon getting the opportunity to reread her prequel series, I found that I had gained so much more of an appreciation for this new world she had created. I fell in love with the stories and the characters in TID all over again, almost as if for the first time. Will Herondale is a character for me that sticks out in particular among the cast because he has such a poetic character arc. Being a Herondale, his character has this natural draw and charisma that makes him beyond lovable! As much as I adore Will, I could not imagine separating him from Tessa. The combination of two of my favorite YA literary heroes into one super couple, of course, must make these two my favorite OTP of all time. The chemistry these two characters share is so beautiful. I particularly love the bond Will and Tessa share over books, as some of Cassie’s best quotes from the series stem from them. Although their relationship has its ups and downs, it reaches a stunning conclusion in CLOCKWORK PRINCESS. The date Will and Tessa share on Christmas is one of the most romantic and gorgeously crafted scenes I have ever read in YA literature. I would love to experience a date of my own that was this endearing and heartwarming. --- Gabby B.

If I had to choose any character to date from any book I’ve ever read, it would absolutely be Rhysand from the COURT OF THORNS AND ROSES series. He is such an amazing character, and lets face it, we’d all love to be Feyre. The High Lord of the Night Court (not to mention the most powerful High Lord in history) is my guy. As for my OTP, I have to go with either Simon and Baz from CARRY ON by Rainbow Rowell or Jesper and Wylan from SIX OF CROWS by Leigh Bardugo. They’re both just wonderful couples that I love soooo much! I’m not the biggest fan of Valentine’s day myself, but I am ready for some chocolate. --- Gabby V.

If I could choose any book boyfriend I would have to go with the very popular Rhysand from the A Court of Thornes and Roses Series. He is probably one of my favorite characters of all time as well. Some other romances that I adore are all of the couples in The Lunar Chronicles, theSix of Crows Duology, and every book by Katy McGarry. My OTP of the moment would have to be Inej and Kaz from SIX OF CROWS, Dimple and Rishi from WHEN DIMPLE MET RISHI, or Khalid and Shahrzad from THE WRATH AND THE DAWN. --- Grace P.

I have so many book boyfriends! I would love to date either Will Herondale from The Infernal Devices by Cassandra Clare or Rowan Whitethorn from HEIR OF FIRE by Sarah J. Maas if either of them were real. My favorite OTP is Claire and Jamie Fraser from the book OUTLANDER by Diana Gabaldon. I also love Aelin and Rowan from The Throne of Glass series and Annabeth and Percy Jackson from The Percy Jackson and the Olympians series. --- Ilona K.

I don't really have any book crushes, but I definitely have some OTPs! I majorly ship Rhys and Feyre from A COURT OF MIST AND FURY, Clary and Jace from CITY OF BONES, and Anna and Kai from SWEET EVIL! I've fallen in love with historical romance novels over the last year, and Sophie Jordan's are some of my favorites! --- Isabel C.
