Archives - Teenreads Monthly Update

Hello!

My name is Shara Zaval, and I'm the new Editorial Manager at Teenreads.com. It’s a pleasure to “meet” all of you! I thought a brief question and answer section would be a great way to introduce myself…just imagine me (layers of necklaces, gold shoes and if I’m lucky a dress significantly out of my price range) sitting on a plush stool across from Oprah or Conan O’Brien…I’d take either.

In association with the Children’s Book Council (CBC) and Every Child a Reader (ECAR), Teenreads.com is giving you a very special opportunity to let your voices be heard by telling us your favorite books of 2013. The five titles that receive the most votes will serve as the finalists for the CBC’s 2014 Teen Choice Book of the Year. Once the five finalists have been determined, we will tell you where you can go vote for them. The winner will be announced in May 2014.

All you have to do is look at the books listed on this page, and check the boxes next to your favorites before January 31, 2014. You can also vote for titles that are not on the list.

Is anyone else beginning to catch holiday fever? Halloween is over, but even before everyone was feeling costume fatigue, stores were already putting out holiday decorations in red, green, blue and white…and is that a holiday jingle I hear playing? With lights beginning to be strung on trees, my urge to watch Love Actually is checked only by the knowledge that it’s only the beginning of NOVEMBER. People are eager for us all to get into the holiday spirit, but what about Thanksgiving? This year Thanksgiving does not fall until the end of November AND it coincides with Hanukkah --- Does that mean turkey and latkes will be on the menu? I’m cooking Thanksgiving dinner for my family this year, and I still need to go through ALL of my cookbooks to work up the menu.
