Archives - Teenreads Monthly Update

Ah, summer! The sun is shining, the birds are chirping and HARRY POTTER AND THE SORCERER’S STONE turned 20 this week! That’s right, the book that made many of us lifetime readers and made children’s literature BIG news has been around for two whole decades. I can still remember the very first time I read the line “Mr. and Mrs. Dursley of number four, Privet Drive, were proud to say that they were perfectly normal, thank you very much.” I was actually a little late to discovering the series, so my grandmother bought me both HARRY POTTER AND THE SORCERER'S STONE and HARRY POTTER AND THE CHAMBER OF SECRETS at the same time --- and my life was never the same again. It’s amazing that so many Teenreaders are still discovering and loving these books for the first time all these years later.

In our last update, I mentioned that I would be heading to BookEpo, a major event where publishing professionals discuss new books and book trends, to moderate the Young Adult Author Buzz panel. ICYMI, the Buzz program is one of the most exciting parts of BookExpo for its ability to launch new books that the committee believes will resonate with readers in 2017. This year’s Young Adult Buzz Authors are graphic novelist Tillie Walden for SPINNING (September); debut fantasy author Tochi Onyebuchi for BEASTS MADE OF NIGHT (October); the amazing Samantha Mabry for her second book, ALL THE WIND IN THE WORLD (October); award-winning journalist Dashka Slater for THE 57 BUS: A True Story of Two Teenagers and the Crime That Changed Their Lives (October); and beautiful newcomer Nic Stone for DEAR MARTIN (October).
