From the Earth to the Shadows: Valkyrie Book Two

Amanda Hocking is coming out with FROM THE EARTH TO THE SHADOWS, the sequel to BETWEEN THE BLADE AND THE HEART. Before writing this Norse mythology duology, Amanda Hocking has written multiple series of books including the Kanin series, the Watersong series and the Trylle series. Not only is Amanda Hocking a USA Today bestselling author, she also a New York Times bestselling author. Like I said before, FROM THE EARTH TO THE SHADOWS is the sequel to BETWEEN THE BLADE AND THE HEART, so if you do not want any spoilers for BETWEEN THE BLADE AND THE HEART, stop reading here! And go back and read BETWEEN THE BLADE AND THE HEART.

A quick recap of BETWEEN THE BLADE AND THE HEART: Malin, Oona, Quinn, Atlas and Asher all went on a mission to stop the underworld, Kurnugia, from uprising and invading the living world. During said mission, Asher gets captured by Ereshkigal and her boyfriend, Gugalanna, and gets dragged into Kurnugia. After the mission goes awry, Odin --- the king of the gods --- appears to Malin and convinces her to go on a mission for him.

"FROM THE EARTH TO THE SHADOWS by Amanda Hocking amazed me, and I enjoyed reading it very much."

In FROM THE EARTH TO THE SHAODWS, we pick up almost immediately after we left off in BETWEEN THE BLADE AND THE HEART. Malin is currently on her most recent mission --- the one assigned by Odin. Malin has the fate of the living world on her shoulders, which she begrudgingly shares with her friends. The leaders of the underworld are planning to come into the actual world, and --- according to Odin --- she and her friends, both old and new, are the only ones capable of stopping the invasion. However, while Malin really wants and needs to save the world, she also really wants to get Asher back from Kurnugia, to figure out predestination and if it exists and to understand her mother, Marlow, and why she died.

FROM THE EARTH TO THE SHADOWS by Amanda Hocking was incredible. The plot was amazing, and while fantasy books do not seem like they can be deep, FROM THE EARTH TO THE SHADOWS gets as deep as Kurnugia covering topics from a mother’s love to free will. But that’s not all of FROM THE EARTH TO THE SHADOWS’s shining qualities. The characters were all very nicely written without being one-dimensional, and the new characters who we were introduced to were amazing. The dialogue and interactions between the characters was very good. FROM THE EARTH TO THE SHADOWS by Amanda Hocking amazed me, and I enjoyed reading it very much.

FROM THE EARTH TO THE SHADOWS by Amanda Hocking is a must-read if you’ve read BETWEEN THE BLADE AND THE HEART. This duology reminds me of a more adult, Norse version of the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series by Rick Riordan. If you enjoy mythology, adventure, and romance, pick up FROM THE EARTH TO THE SHADOWS by Amanda Hocking. Unless you haven’t read BETWEEN THE BLADE AND THE HEART. Then read that, and then pick up FROM THE EARTH TO THE SHADOWS by Amanda Hocking.
