Love Blind

C. Desir’s LOVE BLIND is about a girl in the process of going blind and a boy who is so shy that he barely speaks. Hailey is a talented musician. She has a band and together they rock wherever they can get a gig. Kyle is a sound technician for their school’s radio. Hailey meets Kyle after an interview on the radio one day. She just starts talking to him --- she’s very outgoing --- and Kyle just stutters in return; no pretty girl has ever just started talking to him before. Their friendship soon builds on Hailey dropping by unexpectedly and trying to convince Kyle to talk more.

"I thoroughly enjoyed LOVE BLIND. It’s not really like your typical love story....This book will keep you on your toes. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll get angry...but most of all, you’ll enjoy yourself."

One day, Hailey gets into a little trouble, and Kyle just happens to be there so he takes her home. Hailey accidentally throws up all over Kyle’s shoes and promises to buy him new ones. Kyle accepts the new shoes and when Hailey sees him wearing them, she is overjoyed. The shoes become a symbol of their friendship.

Hailey has a list of fears --- it’s really a list of things she wants to do before she goes blind, but her two moms don’t like her thinking about going blind so she calls it a fear list. She ends up convincing Kyle to make a list as well. Together they conquer their fears and scratch many things off the list. Some things seem rather silly but other things really help them in seeing how much they are truly capable of. Hailey and Kyle have a few falling outs, but they always find their way back to each other. You may be able to guess what happens in the end based on the title of the book, but there’s a lot of unexpected events that happen in the middle. If you want to find out what those unexpected things are, you’ll just have to read the book yourself.

I thoroughly enjoyed LOVE BLIND. It’s not really like your typical love story. Two people don’t immediately fall in love and they don’t spend every second of every day with each other. They have a strange relationship --- but what relationship between someone incredibly outgoing and someone so introverted wouldn’t be strange? At times this book frustrated me because things weren’t happening the way I wanted to. In fact, during class one day I slammed the book down and yelled, “That’s not what’s supposed to happen!” Everyone just looked at me like I was insane, but my English teacher simply said, “I get that way with books sometimes too.” This book will keep you on your toes. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll get angry --- ha-ha --- but most of all, you’ll enjoy yourself.

I would recommend this book to anyone who has fears (which is basically everyone) because by seeing Hailey and Kyle conquer their fears, you might just think to yourself that you can conquer your own fears. After reading this book, I actually made my own list of fears that I want to go out and conquer. It’s an inspiring story --- even if it isn’t real --- that I think everyone should read.
