Maximum Ride #8: Nevermore

The flock of winged bird-kid hybrids have survived so much: torture, experimentation, wars, deceit, betrayal, heartache, and plenty of near-death experiences. All they’ve ever wanted is to live in peace. But if the new radical group nicknamed the 99 Percenters has their way, 99% of the human population will be wiped out by a nasty virus that promises to kill in horrific ways. So once again, Max and her flock are sidetracked from their attempts at a normal life.

"This is an intriguing and truly bittersweet end to an amazing journey. Max and her feathered flock are a group of characters never to be forgotten.... James Patterson fills the pages with high-velocity adventure, hilarious commentary, and plenty of save-the-planet messages."

How can life ever be normal with Fang off in his own group and their beloved Angel dead? Fang’s attempt at his own gang is beginning to backfire. Due to some inside betrayal, he comes face to face with an old nemesis named Ari. Ari is back and badder than ever, driven by a mission to kill Fang. But then, out of nowhere, Fang starts hearing The Voice, the one that Max has been hearing for so long. This convinces Fang that Max needs him. Fang barely questions the advice and begins working his way back to Max.

However, having Fang back in her life forces Max to truly examine her relationship with Dylan. Supposedly, Dylan was created to be Max’s perfect other half, and at times she can almost believe it. But when Fang arrives, Max must confront her own heart and finally figure out who her true soul mate is.

Then, right in the middle of Max’s heart and soul search, she and the others excitedly discover that their beloved Angel isn’t really dead after all. In reality, she is locked in a horrific nightmare, back in a dog crate and suffering even more experiments. Carefully containing their hope, in case it is just an evil trap, the flock throws together a rescue plan to finally reunite the family. Will they be able to pull it off before the entire planet blows up in their face?

This is an intriguing and truly bittersweet end to an amazing journey. Max and her feathered flock are a group of characters never to be forgotten. Their adventures reached high to touch the clouds and our hearts. James Patterson fills the pages with high-velocity adventure, hilarious commentary, and plenty of save-the-planet messages. He even appears to have stretched his own wings regarding his writing style. At times, his words balance on the edge of raw emotion, even dipping into the graceful and poetic spectrum. But hardcore fight fans need not worry; bloody, brutal brawls are abundant, all to save the planet and each other from the bad guys.

Maximum Ride fans will never forget  Max and her flock, who will forever live on in the literary world --- and in our hearts.
