Talon

Julie Kagawa immerses her readers into a fantasy world filled with dragons and soldiers in her new novel, TALON.

Ember and Dante, two twin dragons/clutchmates, are tasked with assimilating and learning how to become and act like humans. They are taken to Crescent Beach and quickly make friends. However, unbeknownst to them, the soldiers of the Order of St. George were also sent there to locate and slay them.

Overall, I liked how Kagawa branched out into new, unfamiliar territory and created a world in which dragons live among us. The characters --- including stubborn and brave Ember; polite, rule-following Dante; and the strong, silent, socially inexperienced Garret --- all connected with me on some level, as almost everyone has encountered people like this in their daily life.

I liked how Kagawa branched out into new, unfamiliar territory and created a world in which dragons live among us.

The main characters faced trouble with their organizations, their friends, their own feelings and each other. None of them had ever been put into a situation like this before and they all responded in different ways, which was interesting to watch unfold.

My favorite character has to be Garret because he was the most dynamic and transformative, and he made tough, admirable decisions despite their consequences.

The very end of the novel had to be my favorite part; the author left us anxious for the next novel and gave us a sense of hope for the characters.

I would recommend this book to anyone with a craving for fantasy, dragons, or just a unique contemporary story with a dash of romance.
