The Case for Jamie

Brittany Cavallaro, the brilliant author of A STUDY IN CHARLOTTE returns with the third book in this thrilling series, THE CASE FOR JAMIE.

It’s been a year since August Moriarty was shot and killed, and Jamie Watson has had enough. Sure, he might still have panic attacks at the sound of slammed doors, and can’t seem to fall for his new girlfriend, but he is done with the world of the Holmes family. He’s determined to stay away from the past and finish his last year at Sherringford before he can lose himself in a normal life.

"The continuation of Jamie and Charlotte’s enthralling adventures is a work of art, the perfect mix of the characters we’ve grown to love and something entirely new and exciting."

Charlotte Holmes, meanwhile, is on the run. Jamie, along with everyone else, hasn’t seen her since that tragic day, and she’s planning on keeping it that way. Trading in different identities like the morning news, she’s spent the past year tracking down Lucien Moriarty where it’s safer for everyone. Jamie and Charlotte seem happier apart, but when a series of strange incidents occurs, it seems as if everyone wants them to find each other again. With little difference between friend and foe and the past haunting their every move, Charlotte and Jamie must somehow figure out who’s been watching them to make it out alive.

The continuation of Jamie and Charlotte’s enthralling adventures is a work of art, the perfect mix of the characters we’ve grown to love and something entirely new and exciting. With constantly switching perspectives, a little bit more of the mystery is understood, as well as revealing the broken remains of our narrators. Charlotte Holmes, in comparison to the classic Sherlock Holmes, appears to be driven by the relationship between Holmes and Watson, as much as she is by the mystery. Due to this, I was worried how the separation between Jamie and Charlotte would work out, yet Cavallaro manages to make their relationship feel as alive as if they were next to each other. I fell in love with their interactions and friendship, and THE CASE FOR JAMIE brings everything I needed and more.

Throughout the series, Jamie and Charlotte have developed unique personalities, and are a huge reason I enjoyed this book as much as I did. Many authors struggle to include a distinction between characters when switching perspectives, yet I felt as if I was talking to two different people while reading this. Jamie’s chapters combine words together like magic, poetic and beautiful, with an artistic edge that scream his feelings without having to say them. Those told from Charlotte’s perspective are analytical and orderly, while gradually spilling the loneliness of this heartbroken girl. From reading the first novel, to here, the characters have grown drastically, yet nothing about their changes seem forced or faked. Each chapter brought new excitement or sadness, something unseen about the characters, and I never stopped wanting to know more.

This adventure drew a thin line between reality and the secret draw of lies, yet I didn’t mind losing myself in the difference. With adventure, action, heartbreak and of course, mystery, THE CASE FOR JAMIE has a little something for everyone. The most diehard Sherlock Holmes-lovers, or those who just want to find a new book to read need to check out Brittany Cavallaro’s new novel, because this case is something you won’t want to miss.
