The Genius Wars

The Genius Wars

The hero of EVIL GENIUS and GENIUS SQUAD, Cadel Piggott --- now Cadel Greeniaus --- is 15 and ready for a normal college life. Normal for a genius who was raised by a criminal mastermind, that is. Cadel has been adopted by Saul and Fiona Greeniaus and just wants a quiet life, away from the evil Prosper English. But readers know that nothing about his life can be normal while Prosper is on the loose.

Cadel is cautiously enjoying college with his former Genius Squad friend Hamish and his beloved Sonia when Saul comes to take him back to the hated Safe House. Prosper has been spotted in Australia, picked up on several traffic cameras. Cadel’s network-cracking skills are a bit rusty, but soon he is up to speed and realizes that Prosper’s image is actually technological trickery and that some of his former criminal school professors are at work. But he doesn’t know why.

Meanwhile, Sonia is injured in a terrible accident that makes no sense. Her wheelchair drove right at Cadel and then crashed down some stairs, sending the physically challenged teen into a coma and intensive care. Cadel breaks into more systems and finds that Sonia’s electronic chair and even her house have been tampered with. A bus crashes into his own home, and he quickly realizes that no one around him is safe. Prosper is coming to get him again.

Cadel risks everything in the new life he loves to create a false identity and stop Prosper. A trip to the United States and help from the FBI bring him to Prosper’s new hiding place, but not even the FBI can protect him from the inevitable showdown with the man who Cadel once thought was his father. A dangerous encounter ends the trilogy, but readers will realize the door is still left open for further adventures. This third volume will bring Cadel’s feelings to the foreground; his love for Fiona, Saul and Sonia drive him to go to any lengths to protect them.

Even with the intensity of Cadel and his adventures, Catherine Jinks injects plenty of her trademark humor. Gazo and his stink weapon lighten many scary moments, and the return of other characters from the Genius Squad also add to the fun. Those new to the series must read the first two titles to fully appreciate this clever mystery full of surprises. Fans of technology will particularly enjoy this one, with amazing networks and gadgets that cover the globe.
