The Unfinished Life of Addison Stone

Review

The Unfinished Life of Addison Stone

Adele Griffin is the author of many novels for young adults and children alike. Her works include SONS OF LIBERTY and WHERE I WANT TO BE. Adele has been a two time National Book Award finalist.  Her newest novel, THE UNFINISHED LIFE OF ADDISON STONE, is an interesting story about a bright young artist who has recently died.

Addison Stone was a rebel. She did everything her way, only listening to a few certain people. She was a bright flame, snuffed out too soon.  As an artist, she did everything --- street art, portraits, animals and more --- and she was becoming known in the New York art scene; she was even signed by Max Berger.  But when she died, everyone was in an uproar. Adele “interviewed” everyone who was involved in Addison’s life, trying to figure out what went wrong.

All in all, this book is a spectacular gem. I would read this book again, and I think that it deserves a spot on the keeper shelf.

I thought that this novel was interesting because it was unlike anything that I have read before.  When I started reading the novel, the first thing that really grabbed my attention was that the pictures and magazine articles all contributed to making it really seem like a biography, which is unusual in fiction novels.  The novel really draws you in, and you make the connections between what happened in Addison’s childhood and her life in New York. And you even get to hear from Addison, as Adele digs up old interviews that provide a voice of what she was thinking and feeling. You could really tell from the interviews how everyone felt about Addison and her work.

All in all, this book is a spectacular gem. I would read this book again, and I think that it deserves a spot on the keeper shelf. I would definitely recommend this novel to fans of young adult, contemporary and mystery fiction.
