This Adventure Ends

THIS ADVENTURE ENDS ENDS was written by the wonderful author Emma Mills. Emma Mills is also the author of FIRST AND THEN. I absolutely loved this book, and frankly had a wonderful time reading it. Considering I finished in 3 hours straight, it's clear that I literally couldn’t put it down.

THIS ADVENTURE ENDS is about a girl named Sloane Finch. Sloane moves from New York to Florida and almost instantly gets involved with an interesting and complicated friend group. Each part of the friend group has so many layers and backstories it’s nearly impossible to maneuver.

"My favorite part of the book was Emma Mills’ amazing skills at writing. Mills manipulates the words in such a way that no matter what she writes you’ll always be happy be with it. "

In the beginning we see Sloane start to mix in with her new friends, Vera Fuller, Gabe Fuller, Remy, and Aubrey. She experiences the traditions of their friend group and goes through problems while also learning the basic backstories. Mills constructs the sequence of events in the story to make it seem as though you are going on the journey with Sloane. We soon get an idea as to what the main conflict is: retrieving something incredibly important to the group. The main thing we understand in the beginning is the role each person plays in the group, and how Sloane fits in.

In the middle we start to see the conflict build. We see Sloane (and Remy) go on the “quest” to find their important artifact. We also get an understanding of who each of the characters are. We also get to see how big of a role Sloane’s family plays in her life. We get to see romances blossoming, friendships deepening, and suspicions arising.

In the end we understand how much everyone means to each other. We understand what lengths these characters will go through for their friends. We see people finally receive their happy ending.

The characters developed beautifully. We could see how much love they held for one another. We could see sides of their individual personality as well as how it blended with everyone else in the group.

My overall thoughts on the book were that it was absolutely amazing. I couldn’t stop reading it. The only thing I didn’t like about the book was the fact that it had to end. I wanted to really see how the characters lives develop. My favorite part of the book, however, was Emma Mills’ amazing skills at writing. The way she writes the book makes you support the decision the characters make even if it wasn’t what you wanted in the beginning. Mills manipulates the words in such a way that no matter what she writes you’ll always be happy be with it. Another part I loved about the book was how immersive it was and how it made you feel like you were a part of the group itself.

I would recommend this book for people of age 15 and up. I say 15 and up because it didn’t have any mature themes, but there was excessive foul language and profanity. In conclusion, I definitely recommend THIS ADVENTURE ENDS for anyone who loves a story about supportive friendship and love.
