Ttyl (talk to You Later)

Review

Ttyl (talk to You Later)

Angela (SnowAngel), Zoe (zoegirl) and Maddie (mad maddie) --- sworn best friends beginning tenth grade. While they're all sworn to stay true to each other and support one another through whatever may come, this is often easier said than done. All the girls have different personalities (Angela is the trendy, laid-back one, Zoe is quiet and conservative, and Maddie is headstrong), but they are loyal to one another, and though they fight, they always make up in the end. The ups and downs of their friendships are played out every night over instant messaging (IM) --- or at least they are when they're all on speaking terms.

ttyl is a stock story about the trials of friendships, high school, boys, teachers, parents, mean girls, and driving. The IM format is the only thing that saves this book from being completely unremarkable, but even that grows tiresome after twenty pages. This Gen-X reviewer who grew up without the Internet and didn't start using IM until her mid-twenties spent much time saying, "Dude, where's my language?"

The netspeak, while true to the style of teen communications, slows the pacing considerably and makes the book more difficult to read (especially for readers who may speak English as a second language). But if u cn read this, u might leik this book 2 :)
