Who Killed Christopher Goodman?

Review

Who Killed Christopher Goodman?

The annual Deadwood Days festival is a way for the residents of Goldsburg to enjoy a little excitement in their summers. However, in 1979, a series of coincidences take place that don't seem unfortunate until high school student Christopher Goodman ends up dead, and everyone blames themselves. Christopher Goodman may be a bit odd, but he's also kind and well-liked. He's friends with everyone, and is always willing to lend a helping hand. Yet in the end, is it his kindness that gets him killed, or is everyone else to blame?

"Allan Wolf intertwines real life events and people with fictitious elements in order to create a novel that perfectly captures the coincidental circumstances and long-lasting effects of both Christopher Goodman's death and the real murder it was inspired by."

Allan Wolf's novel, WHO KILLED CHRISTOPHER GOODMAN, is based off of a real murder that occurred in the author's past. Six different voices tell the chain of events that led up to this event, the part they each played in the end result, as well as the effects of the guilt. How much does each action you take affect someone else's life? After Christopher Goodman's death, the characters mull over the possibilities of what they could've done differently in order to avoid it. One of the six characters is the murderer himself, which offers a look into how his actions became so entangled with all of theirs as to cause them to share his blame. Be it the domino effect or simply being in the wrong place at the wrong time, Christopher Goodman's death was something no one could've predicted, and which affected everyone deeply.

Allan Wolf intertwines real life events and people with fictitious elements in order to create a novel that perfectly captures the coincidental circumstances and long-lasting effects of both Christopher Goodman's death and the real murder it was inspired by. WHO KILLED CHRISTOPHER GOODMAN is a realistic and gripping novel, with believable events, relatable characters and the ability to touch you deeply. The use of the different perspectives throughout the novel helps to create a clear image of what it was actually like to experience it, and how guilt manages to plague each character for a different reason. The point of the story is not the mystery nor the murder itself, but everything leading up to it, and the unanswerable question: How could this tragedy have been avoided? WHO KILLED CHRISTOPHER GOODMAN is a story of grief and loss, and most importantly, of real life.
